Congrats Brad! ----- http://www.cbc.ca/arts/story/2006/10...s.html?ref=rss Europe Council prizes 7 designers Last Updated: Wednesday, October 18, 2006|2:30 PM ET CBC Arts Eight designers in the centre of the professions gained prizes worth $15,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, it had been introduced Wednesday. The yearly Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Awards are designed to recognize exceptional mid-career designers employed in all of eight disciplines: music, theater, party, visible arts, press arts, writing and writing, and interdisciplinary arts. Two of the prizes visited artists trying to create new types of expression within the Very First Nations group. Interdisciplinary artist Robin Brass of Regina may be the co-founder of Sakewewak Artists' Collective and shows in The Beginning Nations University of Canada while dancer Santee Smith from Six Nations, Ont., may be the founding Artistic Director and choreographer for Kaha:wi Dance Theatre. Vancouver-based character author Peter Knudson, who has co-authored a few books with technology broadcaster David Suzuki, can also be delving in to the earth of First Nations, as his offer may account a glance at the evasive relationship between animals and people through the contact of indigenous mythology. Another champions are documentary filmmaker Pascale Ferland of Joliette, Quebec, playwright Larry Tremblay of Chicoutimi, and jazz musician and composer Brad Turner and graphic artist Ron Terada, both from Vancouver. The awards were made with a bequest produced by the late Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton to the Canada Council.
