Well, on some of your questions: 1) Would Roman Empire have dropped exactly the same? Just about, yes. Fall powers do. The main reason Rome fell wasn't Christian pacifism. 2) Would there has been an extended "dark age" in Europe, or were pagan Europeans fresh to be civil come Church or not? No further black era, if Rome had kept consistently dual. In the end, the "barbaric" intruders were less crude than pictured by Roman (Church-) chronists. Germanic rulers often tried to protect Roman buildings (management etc.) simply because they were practical where possible -. Great section of late old book reduction was because of Christian zealotry, therefore - while undoubtedly being also a saving element - Christianity it self is one amongst several known reasons for the dark ages. Conflicts? Demonstrably number Crusades (except probably the other way around.) Think about religious conflicts between pagan variations? Possible? Or does a resistant "secular" program arise early? Difficult to estimate the way the competing religions recently antiquity might have fared are there no Christianity. Had the Gnosis or Manichaeism won, they'd not need been much better. The overall trend in the Roman Empire was towards a religious monopoly which may also have similar results regarding religious tolerance: zero. I actually do believe there might have been more religious tolerance in regards to what one thinks, although not regarding how one reacts, if there had been number "winner" and paganism won. Also, there's number unique pagan driving force towards secularity. 3) Would capitalism have started early in the day or later? Protestant work ethic is definitely an definitely overrated fantasy. The foundation for capitalism are available in Roman Catholic ancient Italy and the international festivals like Lyon. The protestants-to-be Dutch already had exactly the same attitude once they were still Catholics. But straight back from the sidetrack, I believe the issue of capitalism is mainly unrelated to Christianity.
