Haha. Cue the wailing and gnashing of fascist teeth.

It's OK because its common for countries to not have term limits on leadership. Britain doesn't, for example. Similarly, it would have been fine if the Venezuelans were doing the opposite.

There's nothing sacrosanct about term limits. They exist for practical reasons. Some nations may feel they need them, due to their circumstances, others might not. It's really an internal matter.

Similarly, if the US congress amended the constitution to allow Arnold Schwarzenegger to run for President, that would be fine as well. That's because it isn't a partisan issue.

Yes, I agree. Looking at it from that big picture point-of-view ignoring all the details, that makes perfect sense. I'm just grateful that the world is so simple. But it makes you wonder how so many people screw it up. You tell 'em Aggie!
And I guess you will shortly produce these "details", by anal extraction, as is your wont?

Do you ever notice how all of his changes increase his own personal power? It just goes to show any country can slip closer and closer to dictatorship.
Did you ever notice that he has to get public consent for his changes, and that if he wants to stay president forever, he'll have to get people to keep voting for him forever?

Oh, you didn't notice this? No wonder you've been posting rubbish.

So are you going to come up with some real evidence, or are you and Siddiqui going to confirm that you're both clueless clowns? Such stupidity would be forgiveable once or twice, but it's getting to the point where people are starting to suspect secret lobotomies.

So either come up with some evidence for your claim, or STFU and let the adults talk.

Again, evidence, *****. Show us it.

And I notice that no-one seems to care that Uribe next door had his term limit extended by referendum.

Chavez is going to be a Mugabe. The type of guy who likes to be democratish while he's popular but won't want to give up power so he'll become progressively more autocratic as time goes on.
You could make a career as a magician who pulls endless strings of frivolously coloured handkerchiefs out of his rectum. After all, you've been doing it for free for so long now, it's about time you monetized the operation.

Greece doesnt either. nobody has made it to stay in power for more than 7-8 years continuously though (a couple have managed to come back later...)

so as long he keeps getting elected through a fair procedure (as it happens to be the case according to initial reports)...

Those who cast ballots decide nothing. Those who count, decide everything.

Didn't he have this referendum already? Is it really a good idea to make constitutional changes by attrition?

I'm opposed to term limits as a general principle of removing a democratic choice from the people. In the case of America, there is an institutionalized bias in favor of incumbents or those who would serve the powerful, but the institution of term limits in the United States at various levels hasn't led to an increase in good governance. The most important step that could be taken to give everyday people more say in their government would be to get private money out of elections.
