Default Does gasoline quality really differ from station to station that much in the US?
Just wanted to know what you guys thought. I have a Civic and I always buy 87 octane. I buy from different places like Holiday, Citgo, Amoco, etc. I cannot really tell the difference between fuels but what do you guys think?

I don't see a difference in my car (Scion xA) or my past cars (Nissan Sentra 2003/'95), but I won't go to a no name gas station out in the middle of nowhere. I always buy the lowest 'cause where I live has the highest gas prices in the nation
$3.50 atm. Have to drive an hour to and from work everyday too. Sucks...

though I think the lowest octane here is 89

Where do you live, Hawaii, Cali?

Our gas prices are much less, I couldn't tell you what they are at right now since I don't have a car at school but they are much lower. The gas here in MN also is required to be 10% ethanol I think.

California- just outside San Diego. Inside San Diego is much cheaper. On a side note, we also have the highest electric prices. And houses here... $400,000 for a 2 bedroom track house is the cheapest I've seen...

Im sure you guys make more money over there also?

But I've often wondered the same. I tend to go to whichever gas station is closest to where i am when i decide to get gas. ($2.98 in WI atm)

My friend works for a distributor. He said the same gas goes out to almost every station in a given area, so unless they have a system in place at the station for puttin in an additive, it's all the same.

Meh, apparently some are better than others, but I always go to the local Union 76/Circle K station near my house (literally 2min away).

I believe so, and so does my Cougar.

Example? My Cougar performs, and runs longer on shell vs say...BP gas.

I would say that there is a difference, but you can not tell unless you take your motor apart and look at the cylinder head, walls, valves, exhaust, ect. ect. for carbon deposits and other exhaust smoke.
Oil might last a little longer too with better gas.

Though I would say that all gas is pretty much the same quality these days. All the gas runs through the same pipelines that come out of Michigan and Louisiana. If I buy gas in Washington DC, it is going to be the same gas that I buy here, because the gas in DC runs through the same pipeline that I get my gas from here in Chattanooga.
Only difference is the distributors might add additives to the buyers (BP, Shell, Citgo) needs.

I can't tell the difference from BP, Shell and a local no name station. Though I am sure that my engine can over time.
Though for me, I only get gas at BP stations. I have 3 stations that I generally get it from, but if I am out of town and need gas, I will only get gas at a BP station.

So everyone bash me because i wont be talking about the US but in germany there are certain minimal standards which some companies tend to hit just barely while others produce more hq gas.

on another note the lowest octane is 95 now (no wait we have normal was well with 89) prices are about 1.20 € per litre

Afaik, European octane ratings are different (and higher) than the US; your 95 octane is essentially our 87 octane.

Ours is measured in RON, isn't yours ANN or something?

Heh, I'm not too sure. The stickers at the pump claim it's the R+N/2 method.

I usually get gas from either BP or Speedway, places like sunoco and marathon seem to have crap gas. Too many incidents when I got bad gas
Gas is at 2.65/g here today... well for now that is...

Arh the old R+Nover2 method, personally I prefer the RON method, its much, much easier.

PS I have no idea what the hell I'm babbling on about!

It's all the same, although I think Shell puts way too many detergents in their gas, but thats my opinion.
