Default Stumped: what should I write back to 15 yr old son
Tell him it is O.K. if he hears Emo/Gothic music and clothes himself in black leather/latex, even if he uses cosmetics that usually only women use...
but tell him that he should say no, if he is offered any drugs in his emo/gothic clique

I'm confused. Is OP authored by him to you? Or you to him?

Teenagers

Sounds like he's entered the next phase of being a brat. You just have to roll with it. If he isn't doing drugs, being violent towards others or getting girls pregnant, you should be thankful.

You kid AH? Good writter too, maybe too many big words.

First, "fogiving and not forgetting" is not hypocritical. I can forgive someone for being an idiot, but if I then forget this I am doomed to realize it again through the same mistake that made them need my forgiveness.

Second, it's a game, play or be played. I can't understand if he wants to be noticed or doesn't, is mad at the world or himself... I don't see ignorance or a fool, I see the same desperation to identify as many teenagers. Identify with ? against ?... Sadly, many people continue this desperation through onto acceptance on whatever they end up with when the first kid shows up, or the deadend job traps them, etc... It's good to start asking these questions now. It's good to realize "you don't know", it's those who never realize this that I have more concern over.

Third, complaince is not conformance. I would suggest he look into socio-economic books and studies, those that teach how to influence choice, behavior, and decisions. Authors like Malcolm Gladwell or Richard Thaler teach what could be called manipulation, I think he would get a kick out of these. Or, books that show alternative lifestyles, like Ferriss' 4-hour work week. This way he doesn't think that it's all for naught.

Sometimes I think we should 15 year olds in charge of the world, while they still know everything. It is our age that kills or ambitions and responsibilities that kill our dreams. Tell your son God Bless, you found the question... you found that one thing Curley was talking about in City Slickers. Welcome to the end.

Send him a pound of weed, and tell him you love him. Or just send him the pound of weed, and let him figure out the rest.

I like his take on Jesuits. Considering what a bunch of sellout post-Christian tools the SoJ has become, I'd figure Strangelove would like them more.

Perhaps a copy of Strunk and White would help him out. Those are some hellacious run-on sentences. Send him a copy of that, a pound of weed, and maybe a note from his dear old dad.

Clearly the only response is:

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die. "

Teenagers are never happy. And if they are, they are up to no good.

Anyway, he'll appreciate all that stuff when he's older. In the meantime, you've just got to do what's best for him, whether he likes it or not.

Well, he was Basque.

Hopefully your son can insult St. Ignatius with a little more flair now that he's done the research.

Did you really call him a disappointment and threaten him or is this teen angst engaging in hyperbole?

Is this all taking place in a tropical paradise?
