Default Is George Zimmerman white?
Why is James Carville in that picture?

You're a little late to this party. He's half-white, half-hispanic. Oh, and he's probably a murderer, too.
Half@half? So WTF is he?

Race is a construct. It doesn't matter what people call him.

It does to the media and news outlets.

He's 'White Hispanic'. That's the phrase the media uses. It's true, though. Despite the best efforts of the Chicano and La Raza movements, Hispanics are not a race; there's Black Hispanics, White Hispanics, Asian Hispanics, etc. Calling someone Hispanic is like saying they're American; it just means they have an origin in one of several countries, instead of a single country (like Americans). A lot of Latinos don't seem to understand this but others take their white-ness for granted.

I think it's a class thing where the poor ones think they're like Blacks but the middle class ones consider themselves white.

Like look at these Mexicans. These aren't Puerto Ricans or something who are more obviously white and indistinguishable from Spaniards. They're Mexicans.

There's only one way to describe their skin complexion: white.
Albi? how do you know that they are Mexicans?

Albi, Mexicans are people born in Mexico.
Just because they look hispanic doesn't mean they are Mexicans.

Here in Texas we call them Latinos or Chicano( which is a generic ) till we find out where they are from.

Half-hispanic, half-white. I already said that. As far as I'm concerned, he's just an American. I mean, I'm a quarter Polish, German, Welsh, and Czech, but I was born in the United States, so I just consider myself American.

Well, that's for a jury to decide. You'll note I said probably.
May not make it that far.

A Mexican is a mix of Spanish and Indian descent.

BTW
Here in Texas they say Mexicans are living proof that Indians ****ed the buffalo.

Race in America is retarded.

This is considered Black:

Harold Ford is phenotypically white as **** (except for his hair) and probably is overwhelmingly of white ancestry. Yet he's called and considers himself to be Black. Wut?

Are you not familiar with the one drop rule or are you expressing incredulity at something you're already familiar with?

Texas sounds like a shithole of ignorance and racism.

Why are we still using and upholding racist ideas that were tools of oppression and disenfranchisement?

If we did a genetic test on Harold Ford, I'd have no doubt in my mind the man is at least 3/4 European. At least. Then he'd be white, not Black.

I wonder how the Puerto Ricans I know who don't consider themselves white would be viewed in say Ecuador.
My first wife is a Puerto Rican. I learned that they do not like being called Hispanic.

They won't oppress and disenfranchise very many people now, will they? So who cares if Obama is considered black? Seems to have made blacks feel more empowered.
It makes biracial and lightskinned people confused and self-hating. You wouldn't believe what lightskinned people have said to me about they hate their complexion because it's a reminder of when white slave owners raped their Black ancestors. WHAT THE FLYING ****?!

Puerto Ricans do the same thing about Taino Indians... identifying with the oppressed natives and not with the oppressive Spanish even though the most recent genetic studies of Puerto Ricans show that they are, on average, less than 10% Taino (some older studies erroneously had this number higher). ****ing weird. Your ancestors were the oppressors, not the oppressed. Deal with it. Every culture has done ****ed up ****.

And it plain doesn't make any sense. It's like someone having a Cherokee great grand-mother claiming to be an American Indian.

it's a reminder of when white slave owners raped their Black ancestors Bullshit! either this person is delusional to the fact that his or her grandparents had a thing for white women or men, or they live too much in the past blaming there current problems on something that happened hundreds of years ago.
A person of mixed black/white is not excepted by either color. Too black for the whites and too white for the blacks.
A lot of the mixing came about by prostitution.
