Default Torpedo IPA
If you like IPAs then you should try Sculpin IPA by the Ballast Point Brewing Company. Yes, it's a beer from San Diego but it is rated as the best IPA sold in America by BeerAdvocate.com.

most microbrews are ****. I try new beers and spirits sparingly. The likelihood is that they will suck far more than the things I've already decided I like.

Fact: any rational optimizer will try new things less as he experiences more and has less time left in life.

Only a douchenozzle hipster will conspicuously continue at his previous pace for appearance's sake.

Trying new kinds of beer is setting a pretty low standard for "trying new things" IMHO. Maybe he should try joining a cult.

I liked Hobgoblin though I haven't had it in about 5 years. Never had anything called Badger ale though.

Torpedo IPA is pretty decent stuff. And for microbrews. Oerdin is like a stopped clock, but this time he's right - you are missing out.

It's only one example and it fit the topic of the thread.

Beer is for children, anyway. Try drinking some real liquor instead of trying new hipster microbrews.

That's a pretty good rationalization of a pervasive cognitive bias.
No, the perceive cognitive bias is optimism bias, and I'm not allowing myself to fall for it.

BTW the best new beer (well new to me) I've found this month is Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout. It's a take on an Imperial Stout which has been barrel aged in bourbon barrels. I'm not usually in to Imperial Stouts but this one has character without being over powering. It's extremely well done.

I've only found it one (very specialized) store though so I don't think it is officially distributed on the west coast. The store in question specializes just in hard to find specialty beers so they probably have some sort of informal under the table way to get their hands on it. Bastards charged $30 for a four pack.

If you like the flavor of bourbon, drink bourbon, you hipster ****.
It doesn't have the flavor of bourbon the the barrel aging does indeed improve a beer and give it a more complex taste. BTW it's hilarious that a dumb ass honkey from the mid-west who likes to pretend to be a dead black rapper is calling anyone names.

they only sell it to regular customers they know are interested in hard to find beers.
Otherwise known as hipster ****s who are willing to break the law and pay outrageous prices just so they can brag about liking a beer before it was popular.

Never paid more than $12 for a 6 pack (or 4 pack) of beer. Plenty to choose from for that price range. Though I love me a good bourbon as well.

Anyways, I just had a Rogue Hazelnut Brown Ale ( http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/132/1339 ) in a 32oz Growler for $6.99.

So bourbon can't be used for anything else? How limiting.

Had a Rogue Dead Guy Ale last night. They make good stuff. Also a local brewer - Wild Heaven's Ode to Mercy which is just great stuff.
