Default Cancelling (sort of) Sky and using box to watch free channels
We've had Sky for a while, the full package (apart from the sports channels), plus multiroom. We've decided to keep what we have, but cancel the film channels and the multiroom. Now, my question is this: on the box upstairs (the multiroom one) can we still receive the free channels just with the box and the old Sky card? The lady on the phone said we'd have to obtain a Freesat card (which I've just looked up and costs £25), but looking on the net some places say we don't need to.

Depends whether they update the box I'd expect. I would've thought they're just run like your downstairs one, as it's no longer Sky's property if it's over 1 year old, so as far as I'm concerned they now don't have any right to turn it off or the card therefore will be fine for free view. I'd be astounded if it didn't work... as it's setup the same as the main box in your living room, no different whatsoever apart from they allow you to get full package upstairs.

I think you don't even need the card to watch anything from Freesat. Give it a go now. Remove the card, see if the free channels still show.

You're right, it worked.

That's cool. Last time I had sky was back in 2000 when I worked for them. I cancelled it when I quit and all that worked was bbc and itv.

If it does go off, you can get a freeview box for peanuts these days.

The question that everyone wants the answer to:

Does the "we" in the OP refer to the OP and the OP's parents?
