I've been called some low down, sh**ty things on this forum, but that's the last straw. I shall be requesting an account deletion in the morning.

I bid you gentlemen good evening.

Mac's do tend to hold their value well. Which in the world of computers is a surprise really. A perfectly working, mint condition G4 mac is just about useless for any of todays tasks, same as any similarly spec'd PC.

Old tech is old tech, no matter how mint it still is.
No, this is something PC owners never quite get.

Go to 6:00 to see the guy launch about 30 apps, then run WoW, Quake III and Unreal Tournament... at the same time on one Mac G4. I know they're 3 ancient games, but that's an ancient computer. Without getting into a PC/Mac debate, fact is G4s probably will probably run Leopard better than an equivalent P4 would run, say, Vista.

I think I have set a precedent for myself now. I shall always refer to you as "dangermoose".

Maybe you should take another minute to reconsider?

Spend a few quid on an 8GB RAM upgrade for the pro one and it will fly.

Nice thought, but the new macs hold their value well too.
I heard that is because they have a removable battery, I guess we'll see when the unicase models are on ebay with near dead batteries. I guess there could be any number of reasons for them holding value, general build quality, style, OS, I suppose trying to give one reason off the top of my head was a waste of time.

I'm not quite sure what you mean sorry. You can remove the battery in any Macbook by opening it up, when people say they don't have a removable battery they mean you can't just clip in a new one from outside the case when it dies.

It's fairly simple to do, but some people won't feel comfortable doing it:

http://www.everymac.com/systems/appl...e-battery.html

Partially they hold their value for the same reason as any premium product - people desire them.

Why does a BMW hold it's value better than a Ford? Badge prestige more than anything. Although, realistically the MacBook Pro range is probably the most quality and robust portable laptop you can buy after the panasonic toughbook range and that counts for a lot.

There is also the fact that they still feel brand new after two or three years, which is generally not the case for a windows laptop.

I agree they do last. I do have a HP compaq NC6400 which is still like new though. It is built like a tank, probably why it was £1100 for a standard laptop with no dedicated GPU when it was released 5 years ago.

The only thing is the screen seems a bit dim, not sure if its always been like it. Also not sure if replacing the screen would make it better

But overall its fairly decent, core 2 duo T5600, 2gb ram, 80gb hdd and the battery still lasts around 3.5 hours

Then sell the 2006 MacBook and get an SSD
