In a group of any size, if a group is that slow, we will just bypass them and go to the next hole if they refuse to acknowledge us.

It's funny how quick they notice you when you are going around them when they never even looked at you while you were behind them.
Haha, I'm a cheapass and just want to make sure I get to play all the holes since I paid for it just like everybody else. So I just call the pro shop, since I used to work at a golf course in town, I know most of the pro's at the courses pretty good as we would always have them playing at our course or vice versa.

In that case, the single can just wait!

I had a guy actually walk up to the tee box while we were sitting on the bench waiting for the green to clear (executive course) and I had to tell him that we were next. The dude asks if it was OK to play through! I said look ahead, where are you going to go!? I did not let him through, he ended up going about 8 holes ahead to get past everyone.
Wow. Skipped 8 holes? Whats the sense to even paying to play and then wishing it all away?

I will always wait back so I don't mess people up on the tee box.
I have never asked to play through.

I play as a single quite often and I've never really had any issue with someone not letting me play through. I used to like playing by myself, but now find myself getting bored when I'm alone, so I'll do whatever I can to join another group, but there are times when the only option is playing as a single.

I will either let them through, or ask them if they want to join us if we are not a full foursome.
Same here. I guess I've been pretty lucky. I haven't run into the problems that I've read about here. I enjoy joining up with other people. It makes for an interesting round.

I think it's incredibly rude when someone asks if they can play through. I think it is up to the group that is playing as to whether they decide to offer to let someone play through. Especially when there are other groups in front.
Well, when there are groups in front, yes. However, I've been in the situation of being a single behind 4 high-school boys who were really hacking (even worse than I hack) with no groups visible in front of them. After I pulled up three times as they were leaving the tee or had not yet teed off and they did not acknowledge my presence, on the 4th hole I politely asked if I could play through. They acted as if I had called their girlfriend ugly or something, but relented and let me through.

If there is no one in front of my group I'll let a single play through. But if it's packed with no where to go, I don't wave them through.

I don't either. But if they're waiting a long time, the next time they catch up at the tee box, I make sure to let them know I'm not letting them through only because there's nowhere to go.
