Default Long Irons Vs. Hybrids - Which do you prefer and why?
I myself am still a long iron lover. I simply feel more comfortable hitting a 2-iron as opposed to a 3 or 4 hybrid.

How about you?

Hybrids by far. My J40's are so easy to get up in the air and give a consistant result from various lies. The ball just lands softer and I can hit and hold more greens which leads to lower scores.

Depends on the shot, from the fairway a 3I, from light rough a Hybrid

Long iron. I just am able to hit them better than hybrids.

I am on the hybrid side. I can't hit my 4i, but 4h I can hit...that is the reason why 4i stays home, 4h gets on the road with me.

I think this all depends on an individual, whichever club a player feels confident with, will be the club he/she will hit.

I wanted to be able to hit my long irons but finally gave up because my hybrids were so much easier to hit.

I haven't hit a hybrid, so I guess my opinion isn't worth much. But since I can still hit my 3 iron just fine, I've seen little need for a hybrid. The only thing I'd want a hybrid for is as an alternative to a 5 wood.

I've actually never had a 3 or 4 iron.

Hybrids are easier for me to hit when I miss a FIR and am looking at a 200+ yard approach from the rough. They also check up nicer on approaches than the equivalent iron.
The trade off is in that the irons are a bit more accurate and can be worked more easily from my experiences.

I'm a hybrid kind of guy myself. I dropped the 4I a long time ago and have been extremely happy with the mashies in my bag.

Off the tee I prefer a long iron, from the fairway/rough I prefer a hybrid. One thing I like about a hybrid is the ability to easily choke up and play a shorter shot, I have a harder time doing that with irons. I guess thats why I just carry the one hybrid.

Hybrids. I have more issues with long irons, such as not being able to hit them.

Hybrids. Theyre easier to get up in the air, more forgiving and more versatile. When even the pros are ditching their long irons, you know its time to move on.

I have never been able to hit long irons well. I never used to be able to hit hybrids, either. That is, until I got my Mashie and figured out how to hit it. I absolutely love my M3 Mashie. I carry a 4i, but I only hit it a little farther than my 5i!! I will replace the 4i and maybe even my 5i, now that I know how to hit the hybrids. I'm actively looking for a M1 Mashie, and probably will get the M5 Mashie also.

The line between long irons and hybrids is a thin one for me. My G-Field 3H, has been a great club for me this year from fairway and from some trouble spots. When I comes to long irons, my 3 iron sits in the closet, and my 4iron usually does very well for me. Hit a nice mid-high baby fade, and then flight gets straighter to more draw as I go up.

I am sort of at a crossroads. I have always hit just irons until this year. I bought a 3H and I am still getting used to hitting it. I definitely hit it farther than my old 3i but I am more inconsistent with it. I had considered getting rid of my 4i and replacing it with a 4h as I wasn't hitting the 4i very well (new set of clubs this year). As murphy's law would suggest, I played this past weekend and hit two beautiful shots with it. So... I don't know which I prefer!

Hybrids are easier from the tee for me. Irons from the deck.
