Filling the gap between 4 wood and 4 hybrid

Guys (and gals),

A couple of months ago the golf bug hit me after a 25 + year layoff. As an anniversary gift my wonderful wife set me up. New bag, Adams A12OS (4-6 hybrid, 7-GW), Ping G20 driver and 4-wood and ghost corza putter. After 9 rounds and 3 lessons things are starting to come together with the last two rounds being 99 and 102.

I'm begining to see a gap in the set between the 4 wood and the 4hybrid. I'm hitting the hybids irons better and better but I'm struggling with the 4wood from the fairway, sculling most shots with it. I know it will come together with practice though.

Here is my question. I'm thinking something like the Adams Super XTD hybrid in a 19 degree loft might be the club to fill the gap. I've read great things about the performence of the club but it seems to also work well for higher handicap guys like myself. What do you think??

Looking for guidance from you guys.

Thanks,

Tommy

That sounds like it could work nicely. I have hit that hybrid, and it is quite the beast, especially off the tee.

If it were me I would find the distance you want to hit then try a few hybrids and few woods and pick what felt and performed best but I think your on the right track.

Cleveland Mashie Fairway in the 7 wood would be a perfect fit I think. It performs like a hybrid out of the rough and will give a great option off the tee on shorter par 4's. Plus they're on sale right now.

since you already game the a12os hybrid why not the 19 in that model and heck its 200 cheaper than the xtd and as a person who is basically new the xtd won't be 200 bucks better than the a12os

I agree with Postman, but the Adams XTD is quite the boomstick

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice.

Postman, I agree the XTD will probably not be 200.00 better than the A12OS, especially at my skill level, but it wouldn't be the first time buying more "toy" than I need. Got a garage full of surf fishing gear to back that up..... :)

I know that you guys have a wealth of knowledge and I appreciate the platform to ask newbie questions.

So I'm on the right track??

i think a setup with 5 and 3 wood is much more common than a 4w. If you like it this way, fill up with a 3 hybrid or iron.
You should be seeing a long gap between driver and 4w eventually, when you start hitting it consistently.

Castpro, I think you're on the right track for sure with your thinking, my first thought was a 3 hybrid to match your set.

Thanks everyone, much appreciated.
