It is. It's a no-nonsense pre-shot routine.

Funny thing is, after a few holes, you catch yourself doing the same thing.

My golf coach told me I should have the same pre-shot routine on all my putts and I have to say it is making a huge difference in my putting.

Ball should have line drawn on it
Get behind ball and place line in direction of the line of my putt
Address ball and take one or two practice strokes while looking at hole to get a feel for the putt (don't change line of putt from this angle-you won't see it the same as you will behind the ball)
Square putter to line on ball (this is why I love my SeeMore putter--I know when it is square when my red dot disappears)
Then putt using stroke you just practiced

When I use my driver and irons, I always get behind my ball and pick a spot about 1-5' in front of it and use that to align my shots. I usually do not take a practice shot although I probably should.

I try to keep things simple too, pick a spot, set my feet, quick breath, square the club and swing

I have pretty much the same routine for driver and putter. On my driver I stand behind the ball lining up the target and get my grip right, I then take a nice easy practice swing, then I step into the ball looking at the target, I keep looking at the target as I get my distance to the ball right then I look down at the ball and set the driver down, pause for a sec then let her fly. With the putter I look at the hole from both sides then walk to the ball and practice putt, then step to the ball set the putter down and adjust my stance, look back and forth from hole to ball to get my alignment, I then look at the ball and take my stroke. Having the routine calms me more than anything and keeps me from getting to quick.

I've recently made my pre-shot routine 'official'. It used to be whatever I was feeling at the time.

Now, I stand behind the ball, and get an image of the shot I'm about to play, feeling how I'm going to hit it and how the ball will fly. Take a breath and exhale fully before I start my approach (this makes me a lot more relaxed as I address the ball!), then take my stance, loosen my shoulders and swing away!

Seems to be making a difference to my consistency.

Seems like everyone tees the ball and then steps back behind to see the shot before addressing the ball. Except JB haha

Sounds like JB's all about the run-up from the side technique. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...es/biggrin.png

Mine too. I find practice swings hurt my actual swing very badly. My practice swings feel great but when I get up to hit the ball...well, it's probably the aforementioned "power chunk," if I've got the picture right in my head. :P
