Why I love the game.

I had a great curveball and hit for average, All-state a few years...
I was a solid linebacker who was great against the run and even better against the pass...
I was a very good defenseman with solid offensive skills, often dictating the flow from the point on the power play...

Then came golf...

The heroes of my youth, the Dimaggio's, Mantle's, Cobb's and Robinson's... Now have the company of the Jones', Snead's, Hogan's and Varden's.

It's only been 13 months, but it is the only game I have ever played that slaps you down with furious anger, only to lift you to new heights with the very next swing.

On the tee, lined up perfectly...
As soon as you take it away, you know its wrong...
You catch it off the toe, snap hook...
You're lucky, though.. this one is in the first cut....

Time for Redemption.

The feeling you get at the top of your backswing, when you know your tempo is on, when you know you are in the slot...
Your downswing stays on line, keeping the "box" that Ernie Els speaks of, wrists coming uncoiled at just the right moment...
The grooves of your club dig into the surface of the ball, a split second before you carve up a nice little piece of turf...
Your eyes catch the ball piercing through the air, as you settle into your follow-through, holding it, as if posing for a picture...

In all the sports I have excelled at, nothing feels as pure and gratifying as a well struck golf shot.

That is why I love this game.

Nicely put ACovington... Rather poetic :)

agreed, even those excellently hit shots go awry often times. can't count how many really good feeling shots were just too far left or right or just too far. it's infuriating! but when they go well i'm on top of the world...
