Nice video. We all have that problem now and then. This will prove helpful. Thanks for sharing.

Brutton 05-06-2012 06:14 PM

spent 2 hours down the range today trying to work this out.
I did a bit of video to see if anyone can help.

I'd put something up in the Ask the Pro section as well. Maybe even post that video of your swing if you could. The GolfTec guys are real good about answering questions within a couple of days. they are very thorough too. Good luck.

I'm hardly an expert but I didn't see any over the top move in your video. Why do you say that's your problem? Ball flight? What you feel?

Brutton 05-06-2012 06:43 PM

ball going straight left divots also pointing left

Buincchotourbss 05-06-2012 06:46 PM

To me, it looks like you are flipping the club back on the takeaway and it's laid off on the top. It is really hard to get inside of that plane. It's hard to tell from that angle, but you might be starting your downswing with your arms, and little lower body action. I know that if I don't bump my weight to the left side before I start down, I pull the ball as well.

chalk and cheese my swing from last year

Buincchotourbss 05-06-2012 08:14 PM

That's a completely different swing dude. In the video from last year, you have very solid one piece takeaway. Get back to that.

Brutton 05-06-2012 08:19 PM

I think your right and to think I sacked the coach that taught me that!

Helloheshess 05-06-2012 09:02 PM

I see a take-away that is way too inside. W/out professional help you might want to take this incrementally. Fix that and see what your divot/ball flight pattern are.

That's exactly what I was about to say. Bringing the club so far back inside will not help a slice because the natural tendency (for some people) is to compensate by throwing the club in front of them because the club can get stuck as far behind as you brought it back. This results in an over the top move and then you end up swing left of the target (out to in) and with a square to closed club face the ball will pull or even cause a pull hook.

Source: My club pro, we worked on this extensively all of May.

quick trip to the range got to say spot on with the takeaway lads. only hit 20 balls worked on a solid takeaway and lower half more like last years swing first 6 balls was sliced badly i wasn't releasing quick enough the last 6 was awesome best 7 irons I have ever hit the longest being 170 which is some 20 yards further than before just hope it continues.

PapsEdisa 05-06-2012 11:03 PM

Yea, I skimmed, even though its a short thread. But my over the top move typically happens when my back swing is too shallow. So I just take a bucket to the inside, and force myself to miss the bucket on the takeaway. Works for me in a pinch.

the exact issue I had, went from slice swing to being too far inside on takeaway that lead to pull hooks like crazy....glad u got it worked out

I think trying to come more in to out with the swing i have been taking it way inside ill be happy when my pro is back next week to see what he has to say.

Yeah you want the butt of the grip pointing directly at the target instead of to the right at some point after the takeaway. This is something that my club pro was helping me with, it's a natural instinct to take it in the inside too quickly to cure an out to in swing but in fact it can make it worse by forcing you to throw the club out in front of you to eke it from getting stuck and it results in an out to in instead. I had this problem for a while
