Any chance the big GPS makers padded some pockets on the USGA board to get this through? Happens everyday in government, just a thought.

That is bs. Anyone who tries to tell me that I can't use my phone for GPS and scoring on the course will be getting a swift chop to the throat. Then again I don't play in USGA events, or anything like it. It is obvious that the people in charge of these new rules have no idea about smartphones and the like.
I don't know, sounds to me like they know all about them, and that is why they have passed this new rule.

I don't see how this affects me or my golf game in any way. Thanks for the heads up!

So this makes any rounds that you use a smartphone device illegal for handicap purposes as well.i think I will miss the stat tracking the most...I love using it to track fairways and greens hit and total putts...it really helps to see where I need improvement.

Interesting stuff here RR, I have SkyDroid on my phone but I actually use my GX-1 rangefinder. I use the SkyDroid for blind shots and to get distances to hazards. I will just go exclusively with the GX-1 now.

I'll gleefully ignore this new "rule". Not all changes are for the better. I'm just an amateur, no way anyone "calls" me out on this.

Glad I can still use my skycaddie. Never liked the phone apps.

Thanks for the heads up! I used my phone strictly for score keeping in some tournaments last year, but now will just leave it in my car.

You should still track all that stuff, just do it after the round. I've been charting all my rounds by hand for about 25 years. I know there are plenty of websites and apps to help out with it, but I'm just used to doing it with a pencil.
