Hi All,
My friends are planning to play some golf down in Myrtle Beach. It's looking like 6 guys for a weekend of golf and warmer weather. We are looking at either late Feb or early March. Can anyone give any suggestions on where to play and stay? I've only heard of Breakers resort for lodging and Myrtle Beach National for golf. Any cheaper or better options. No one in this group shoots under 85 so playing touch courses isn't a good idea. ![]() Thanks, Bao |

We have a group that goes there almost every year and I can give you a couple of recommendations. We've stayed at the Ocean Reef Resort many times and the Legends Resort also a few times. Both are very good, but different. Ocean Reef is an ocean-front hotel that has both hotel rooms and condos (suites). It is centrally located in Myrtle Beach so you can go North, South, or inland to play the various courses with reasonable commute times. Rates are reasonable there and usually include a terrific breakfast buffet. They offer golf packages and can make all of the tee times for you. They usually have some kind of promotion going--last fall it was $70 in gift cards to Martins and the pro shops at courses you will be playing. In prior years we've gotten jackets and the like. The Legends has 2 and 3-bedroom condos on their golf courses, and offer packages including breakfast at their clubhouse. We stayed there when we played their courses.
Below is a website you should check out. It is totally independent and they tell it like it is. Shows the top courses in Myrtle as well as the goat tracks. Same for restaurants. You will enjoy: http://www.mbga.com/ |

True Blue and Caledonia of course. Tell them you are a THP member and see what deals they have for you. There are a couple of threads here as well similar to this: http://www.thehackersparadise.com/forum/showthread.php?15385-Myrtle-Beach-Golf-Trip http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...each-in-August...... http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...n-Myrtle-Beach-! You really can't go to terribly wrong down there as there are many great places to stay and play and a ton of package deals, the one important thing I have found is making sure you try to play near where you are staying, first year we went down we were driving all over the place to play with 20-30 extremely nice golf course much closer to us. Last time we went down we got a 6 bedroom house with pool table, swimming pool and hot tub, 4 nights/4 rounds of golf for around $500 a person. edit: I have used http://www.myrtle-beachgolf.com/ every year we have went down and usually called and talked to Kathy |

I've stayed at Long Bay Resort many times and i'd say it's very nice, kind of in-between Myrtle and N. Myrtle area. Rooms are spacious and quite nice. They had some pretty nice golf packages as well, this time of year you could probaly get a excellent deal. I really like the course at Indian Wells near Pawley's Island and Man O' War almost dead center of Myrtle Beach. Have fun.

My wifes family went up there for 10 years straight and we played golf each time 4 or 5 rounds. We seem to get better deals by searching the local newspaper for the rates instead of buying a package deal. We haven't been in 4 years, but back then they had rates for before lunch, after lunch and then after 3 or so.
A $75 course in the am would go to $50 after lunch and then down to $30 or $35 after 3, so we just played after lunch each day. We also stayed in Cherry Grove instead of MB, it is a few miles north but still on the strip. I've played alot of courses up there and the only ones I'd tell you to stay away from is the John Daly course and Crown something another north of town, both are bad. The daly course is boring and a joke to me, the Crwon course wasn't in very good shape. But remember its been 4 years since I was up there. |

Also keep in mind that the bermuda is going to be dormant and Im not positive as to what is used by individual courses to keep the color green. Don't be afraid to play some of the glens, shaftsbury, heather glen and glen dornoch. Also right over the border in NC has some really good golf too! If you can get to play the dunes golf and beach club do that. They played the senior tour championship there for some five or six years. Even though the name is funny the witch is a great track due to its highly contrasting 9's. Front nine down in the swamp so its flatter (during warmer months lots of gators) the back nine is laid out on the hillier ground that butts up to the swamp. Aberdeen is nice too, 3 nines, I believe its the woodlands 9, very tight, target target target golf! Great challenge. Personally I venture away from the beach as much as possible when I play, but I live in murrells inlet so its easier for me. The classic golf group has 4 very good courses, check them out.
