Default Tips on using a Cart during a round?
I was just reading through aggro's thread about tips for walking a course and realized that I have the exact opposite problem. I purchased a 2 year pre-paid greens fee pass for a course with the stipulation that you MUST use a cart during your round ($12 for 9, $20 for 18, I'm assuming this is how they're making their money as the pass was very cheap for 2 years).

Now I know I'm guilty of rushing around in a cart, especially when I'm playing by myself and thinking about it now, I realize that its probably hurting my game. I dont have the time to cool down after a bad shot that you would normally get by walking to the ball. Bad shots seem to stay with me and even worse, bad putts seem to carry over into my tee shot on the next hole.

With my golf season fast approaching (crossing my fingers for the 25th!), what are some tips you use to keep yourself in check when using a cart out on the course?

A short memory. Carts cut down the time between shots, which as you mentioned less time to colelct yourself. If you hit a bad shot you just have to shrug it off and focus on the next one.

Membership at my home course lets me play two other course nearby with reciprocal memberships by only paying the cart fee. I still walk those course though 99% of the time because the cart fee is less than their normal green (walking) fee. I'm sure they would let you walk as long as you pay the cart fee.

Just because you're in a cart you don't have to rush. But, walking or in a cart you just have to have a short memory and focus on the shot at hand.

If your playing by yourself you probably have time to relax. I like to maybe drop another ball when I hit a bad shot and get a little practice in. Chances are you won't hold anyone up and you get that second chance to hit a good shot and boost your confidence a little while still playing your 1st ball.

I still like to walk to a lot of shots even when using a cart. If Im playing with someone in a cart, ill let them take it to the green and walk up the fairway. It give me time to think about the shot and get some exercise.

hadn't thought about this option, I'll have to see if the course allows it. I like walking during any sort of competative round to keep my tempo and think through my shots.

Thanks for the responses guys, keep 'em coming!
