Long-Term Planning

Other than golf vacations, how far out do you plan your rounds/outings? Anything local - I plan the week before up to the day before. For courses further away - my friends and I plan weeks in advance. We have courses chosen for outings Labor Day Weekend, the weekend of September 20 and the 27th. Or is advance planning just a woman thing?

At my age, planning has to be in a much narrower window, like the next hour.http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...es/biggrin.png

Seriously, I usually sign up for my Men's Club Saturday Outing on Tuesday or Wednesday before. Lots of times, I will get on GolfNow on Saturday night and pick a tee time somewhere for the next day. Very seldom do I plan out any further than that.

When I'm in my "golf rhythm", I usually book my weekend tee times between Monday and Wednesday and then I just take it from there. The days of just showing up are pretty much over save for a few muni's and then only at certain times (like late on a Saturday).

I generally play as a "lonesome" so I'm always getting hooked up with threesomes or twosomes but the advantage to playing (or rather booking) alone is that if I have to change gears at the last minute, I'm not putting anyone since whatever group I was ultimately going to join on the weekend will simply have some other single join them instead (no harm, no foul).

If I'm going on vacation somewhere and there's golf to be played (which I always make sure of), I may book a tee time for a certain day to get things started, but usually after that it's just like most areas where a call a day or two ahead is all that's necessary.

If I were part of a regular group playing every week as I was for a few years, then booking tee times involves everyone, not just me and as such there are a lot of phone calls and verifications about who can be where and when and so on, so it's more complicated and thus requires more effort in terms of "long term planning".

That's why I mostly like flying solo, though the "regular foursome" idea does have its good points as well.

All depends on the day & course. I just got a tee time for a local course tomorrow at noon. If were someplace more upscale I would schedule it 3-4 days possibly a week ahead.

For normal weekend rounds, I don't know whether I'll have time to play until Thurs or Fri. So I wait until then to make tee times. Luckily for me, my home course takes tee time reservations a month in advance, but you will be charged if you don't cancel 24 hrs beforehand. So last minute tee times are always available.
