I'm certain there will be plenty of backlash (in fact, I've already heard plenty from my friends & seen some rumblings on The Internet), but this decadence is part of the deal with Baz Luhrmann. And actually, I'm more excited for it now than I had been before--I'm so thrilled he's taking it over-the-top, and not simply redoing the Redford film. I'd rather see a beautiful mess than a strained period piece any day.

I lovelovelove Carey Mulligan as Daisy! I think this whole idea is a perfect fit for Baz Luhrmann. Decadent visual stylist paired with story about what is possibly America's most decadent period = yes. Also, I feel like I've seen a couple of different previous film versions that were all borrrring and didn't capture the verve and the tension of the book at all. The trailer for this new movie alone has more of a "Gatsby" feel to me than any of those movies. Is there an older filmed version that anyone here just loves? |
