Re: the strong women characters: Just wait until Michone enters the series. You'll get your strong female character. Oh boy, will you ever

The second episode was very very different from the story as told in the comic, which I personally love since it means there are surprises for people who read the comics as well!

zombies! atlanta!

The Walking Dead is an upcoming American television series created for television by Frank Darabont and based upon the comic book series of the same name created by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore. It will premiere on the AMC network on October 31, 2010 with a 90-minute premiere episode, during the network's "Fearfest."

The Walking Dead tells the story of the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse and follows a small group of survivors traveling across the country in search of a new home away from the hordes of zombies. The group is led by Rick Grimes, who was a police officer in the old world. As their situation grows more and more grim, the group's desperation to survive pushes them to do almost anything to stay alive.

I really hope this show is going to be a huge succes. From what I can tell by watching the trailer, they've got the tone just right.
Also, everybody should read the original graphic novels. They're simply brilliant.

Women: maybe we haven't seen 'her' yet. There's bound to be a baddass bitch. She'll more than likely be a troubling seduction for our boy Rick.
Michonne.

Although in the books, she has no interest in Rick.

Really enjoyed these first couple of episodes, and I like how they're not making a carbon copy of the books. Although is T-Dog(?) meant to be Tyreese? Because he seems quite different, and I think I prefer him being older and more embattled.

I'm with Kim, though, Andrew Lincoln is kinda always going to be Simon from Teachers to me.

Does Rick have an interest in her? I'd like that, seeing as that would make his goal a little twisted.

Image comics, eh? I quit collecting shortly after McFarlane created Image. That comic looks pretty cool, is it well-written?

I didn't like the writing in the comics but I'm really enjoying the TV series so far. Most people think I'm Wrong about the comics, though. You should give them a try.

I think the comics are ace, personally. Bleak as all fuck, and I'm only up to the end of year four (I've been collecting the twelve-issue hardcovers, I think the monthly books are up to year seven or eight now). Horrible, appalling things happen to everybody. Michonne's grimmest scenes (from issue #33) are hard to stomach, I have no idea if they'll go that far in the series.

Wasn't a big fan of the comic (writing) but I only got through the first trade paperback. The plot was good enough though and the concept is just freaking fantastic, so I'm still pretty excited to see what it's like on TV. Yay zombie TV!

There may or may not be a pre-air version on the internet.

Hint: there is and it's fantastic.

Zombie Neurobiology

The Amygdala and Anterior Cingulate Cortex

Absent a properly functioning frontal lobe, a zombie is driven entirely by base emotions - such as rage - that are housed in the primitive parts of our brain, notably the amygdala. There's precedence for this in nature. A crocodile brain, for instance, is mostly driven by the amygdala. Researchers have confirmed this by introducing lesions into the amygdala of animal specimens: the result is a drop in the attack and retreat response that correlates significantly with the amount of damage that's done to that region of the brain. A crocodile without an amygdala isn't really a crocodile. As such, Schlozman argues, "you can't really be mad at zombies, because that's like being mad at a crocodile," adding that it's the delicate balance between frontal lobe and amygdala "that makes us human."

Walking Dead Footage Impressions
When there's no more room in Hell, the Dead will walk... in NYC!

I hope it stays slotted for Sunday nights because that's just about the only night I am guaranteed off from work!

Me too!!!! The footage looks amazing so far.
I can't wait to see how they're going to do certain scenes from the comic. Stuff I'm looking forward to:

(don't click if you don't know the comics!!!)

- carl shooting the cop/ex-friend
- lori's death (sob sob)
- tyreese's beheading
- the prison (my favorite story arc)
- everything Michonne!!!
