You need to stop getting so sensitive about Saudi Arabia. It's not like you're from there anyway.

The Saudi government has a habit of bowing to Western pressure, especially if there is enough of it. The king has overturned a few court-ordered hudood punishments in the past, for example. He has even opened up movie cinemas and co-ed universities in spite of the scholars in the country being against these measures. Many government scholars who voiced their opposition were promptly removed from their positions.

Did you read 'Two Swords and a Palm Tree' on Kalamullah? How many more examples of that sort of thing can you think of?

I don't understand the reason for the second part of your question and what it has to do with that article. I just read it at your suggestion and it is basically saying that these actions by the king's government are separating those who are the two swords (secularists and government scholars) and the palm tree (the scholars of truth) - I agree completely.

I don't think its my place to comment on that as I'm not Saudi or Muslim. However I can see that with all the different interpretations of Islam, and the certainty that each sect seems to have in its claim to righteousness, ruling an Islamic nation in a way that leaves everyone, or even a majority of people happy would be a very difficult task, if not impossible.
The wrong person would be one who does not have Islam's best interest at heart. Despite the valid differences of opinion, the ulama all act in a manner that is in the best interest of Islam according to their understanding. On the other hand, King Abdullah has been doing anything but that. Since he is not a scholar, the scholars of his country at least should be listened to. Instead, he removes a scholar for voicing a concern in such a way that it feels like he is agreeing with the king. Read the following as suggested by brother Jadeed: http://www.kalamullah.com/current-affairs20.html

What I mean is, does the government often flout or bypass the rulings of the scholars in such an obvious fashion?

The frequency of such actions has increased ever since King Abdullah took power. He even replaced the head of the Mutawwa (هيئة الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر) in an effort to please the US since the previous one was too strict.

Also, you'll find giant portraits and photographs of the current king and previous kings as well as many princes in almost every city, including Makkah Mukarramah, despite the fact that the Saudi ulama have always been firm on their stance against non-digital photographs and drawings. This, though, has always existed ever since I can remember and was present even under the reign of King Fahd.

Does Saudi Arabia have women in the military?
