I don't think its my place to comment on that as I'm not Saudi or Muslim. However I can see that with all the different interpretations of Islam, and the certainty that each sect seems to have in its claim to righteousness, ruling an Islamic nation in a way that leaves everyone, or even a majority of people happy would be a very difficult task, if not impossible.

The wrong person would be one who does not have Islam's best interest at heart. Despite the valid differences of opinion, the ulama all act in a manner that is in the best interest of Islam according to their understanding. On the other hand, King Abdullah has been doing anything but that. Since he is not a scholar, the scholars of his country at least should be listened to. Instead, he removes a scholar for voicing a concern in such a way that it feels like he is agreeing with the king.
