Default Tasawwuf/Sufi Resources Compilation
Salam,

Brothers and sisters - I am new to this forum and the primary aim for me is to acquire as many resources, books and articles about the spiritual tradition of Islam. I have always found a great deal of solace, inspiration and contemplation in the works of Imam Al Ghazali, Ibn Ata'allah, Ahmed Zarruq and many others.

So it is my humble request that this thread be used to point me towards new avenues of learning and thought - I was wondering if the people here knew about good English resources for tasawwuf and Sufism. Also could people please advise on how we can get circles going in our local mosques and student associations etc.etc. that can discuss the wondrous gems of our great spiritual tradition.

If previous threads have been made that can help me to acquire more resources I would be grateful for these to be posted here -I was also wondering if a thread of this nature can be made ''Sticky'' for invaluable future reference and consumption.

I have no interest in discussing fiqh or any of the like as I believe it is a science best left to qualified experts and the like, so my main interest really is purification of the heart and soul. I find arguing about issues of fiqh on the internet to be very dangerous to the soul and a great waste of time - I believe it was Imam Al Ghazali who said, '' “If those who do not possess knowledge avoid the scholarly discussions, disagreement would end [entirely]!”

So this is a sincere plea for resources, resources and more resources.

God-willing you will post some very refreshing and beautiful links.

I hope to learn a great deal God-willing.

I forgot to add this: a list of some Shuyukh in the west: http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/show...sawwuf-in-West

It might be out of date, it's a rather old thread and it was last updated in February.

Thank you to everyone for supplying these links - I will spend the next few days reading them now.

May God bless you all.

Just on a side note - does anyone have a copy of Ibn Ata'allah's Taj Al Arus in English that they can share? I have been after this for a long time after reading his Hikam...

Also I was wondering if people had any Sufi texts to post here in a PDF format? I would really like it for this to be a thread where there is a comprehensive library of texts for us to share and read...

I think there is an english translation of it called "Sufism for Non Sufis" by Sherman A. Jackson. I haven't seen it on any of the sites I normally buy books from, but Amazon.com has it for sale.

The works of Imam Abdullah ibn Alawi al Haddad
are excellent for all, esp The Book of Assistance

Sufi Sage of Arabia, dr. Mustafa Badawi's biography of the Imam, is a great work to learn about tasawwuf
