Thanks so much for the ideas everyone! They've been helpful. I guess I'm definitive on having a Pitbull main piece which would be an outline. Then maybe use MJJean's ideas of how to correlate with all the dogs I've had and will have.
I would like to highlight it with a quote. Something to do with rescuing a dog or the companionship you get from a dog. Basically something really really touching. I've been looking everywhere but so far no luck. ![]() |

Hey everyone Im not sure if this has been talked about yet but odds are it has. Anyways I'd still love to hear some opinions. I'm considering getting my first tattoo and like most I'm undecided as to what I actually would like. Originally I thought I may want a detailed portrait of my pup but as much as I love him I know he won't be around forever and I'll have other dogs in my life and I don't want to have a bunch of portraits. The one thing I thought I would do would be to have kind of an outline of his head and facial features so it would be him but also would show that it's a pittie. Especially since it will be the only breed I ever own from here on in. Also my pup Benson is a rescue and I will never get a pittie in any other manner. Basically I love my dog to death and would do anything for him. We actually have and currently travel the world together. We fly lots.
Maybe there's some good quotes about the breed being misunderstood, stereotyped, or about rescuing dogs I could have wrap around the image. I'd also like to find a subtle way of how I could tie in the dogs I have had and will have. Would love to hear your ideas. Thanks so much! |

I've always like "Tribute to a dog." Not sure which lines I would use, but it's got a lot of good stuff in it.
ONE MAN'S SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO A DOG The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog. A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground where the wintery winds blow, and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer, he will lick the sores and wounds that come in encounter with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his Pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in it's journey through the heavens. If misfortune drives the master forth an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him to guard against danger, to fight against his enemies. And when the last scene of all comes, and death takes the master in it's embrace, and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by the graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true, even in death. -From a speech given by Former Senator George Graham Vest of Missouri. Delivered in 1870 when he was acting as a lawyer in a suit against a man who had killed the dog of his client. -- He won the case. |

And this is why I don't have a dog related tattoo...yet. I have had 2 dogs in my childhood that really touched me plus the four I have now. I'd run out of space real fast, lol.
My brother in law had 2 APBT named Diamond and King. He got a crown with a diamond above it to represent them. Maybe something like that? Some symbols that represents your dogs that can be added to over the years. The Pit Bull outline above could be filled with a symbol for each dog you own, for example. Or maybe a dog collar wrapped around your arm, leg, or chest with a dog tag that says "Pit Bull" or "American Pit Bull Terrier" and then you could fill the collar in over time with symbols for your dogs. |

The best advice I can give is to be sure it has some true significance to you.
I had wanted to get a portrait of each bully/mix I'd had. But I waited a few years. I ended up being inspired by a piece of jewelry and drawing a Day Of The Dead inspired bully face to represent all of my dogs I'd had through the years. And since most of them were SDs for either me, or my Autistic son, I added the puzzle piece. Not the best pic.. this was right after I got it and it's hard to take a pic of your own for-arm! ![]() |

Thats really nice! I think I would like to have a couple more lines to bring out the face of my pup. I have this t shirt. I was possibly thinking of this head...maybe more simplified though...

I really like that first one too, and I think an outline type idea is a lot better than a full on portrait.
Haha my first tattoo was very well planned to say "aloha ke akua" down my ribs in a bubbly girly font.... 30 minutes before leaving for my appointment I changed it to FREEDOM and in a totally opposite font.... I love it. Don't be surprised or scared to make last minute changes that you want when the time comes. |
