Ewww! And I didn't expect that.
Last night was interesting and confusing.
So, I live in the shed out the back, there is insulated walls. The other day I can hear scattering/noises behind the walls, I'm thinking great, I have mice but we haven't seen any in a long time around here and my room is really clean. Anyway, I go to bed. I get woken up because Sunny is growling and this is not like him at all. I turn the light on because I was worried him and Serenity were about to fight but Uh, Serenity is no where in sight near Sunny, she's fast asleep under the futon. Unless she quickly scurried away but I know my dog and I am pretty damn sure she would have reacted to Sunny growling at her. (So, I'm confused why he growled but whatever) Since he's been odd at times, I decide to get up to see if anything may be making him growl. I shine my phone light next to him and I.. Ewww.. See this dead thing, I seriously have no idea what it was. It was grey and it was big and it was dead. To big to be a mouse, could be a rat but we've never seen one around here.. It looked bigger/furrier then a ray though.. Maybe it was a different animal? I don't know. I have a phobia of dead things and I just didn't have the will power to look at that poor animal last night. I didn't know what to do.. I couldn't touch it (bad phobia of dead things).. I had other options but I was tired and so grossed out. I went back to bed but it took me a little bit to fall asleep because I kept imaging Sunny jumping on my bed with this thing. I am so happy though that I kicked both dogs off the bed at night (I love them sleeping in the bed but I'm over the dirt they leave behind). He would have eaten that thing in my bed and I would have freaked out. So glad he knew the rules and stayed on the futon. I still wonder what the hell went on. I mean, how did I not wake up to him going after this thing? Or was he lucky and grabbed it in one quick movement? Why didn't Serenity go after it/fight him for it? (then again, she's been weird with food) or did she? These are one of those things you just don't expect to happen. So many questions! My only concern was Serenity and Sunny fighting but I would've woken up to that. I had planned to dispose of it in the morning but he ate it. I honestly didn't even consider the fact he was going to eat it. Well, he got a full raw meal! And I think there's more in my wall because I heard them when I woke up. I hate having a phobia of dead things. It took me so long to even be able to touch raw meat. Anything 'interesting' ever happen to some one here that they didn't expect? |
Oh my god gross! At least he got a free meal lol

Well at least you know Sunny could survive if you weren't there to care for him http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

One time I watched a rabbit run across my backyard with my two dogs in hot pursuit! Well, it literally knocked over, dead, without either dog getting at it. ( had a heart attack I am sure)
My Australian mix Sheeba "guarded" that rabbits body I tell you! She would not let Diesel come CLOSE to it, and he sure did try! I was unable to go up and get the carcass. Had to have my husband come and bury it, and the whole time Sheeba kept guard. Strangest thing! |
It sounds like a possum. Are you sure the dog ate it. Possums will play dead for hours, not moving at all and giving every appearance of being dead and then getting up and walking off when they think it's safe. Our boxer attacked one on our deck and we thought for sure it was dead, it was late at night and we were going to wait for the morning to dispose of the body, but in the morning it was gone. We have possums and raccoons that frequently live under my shed in the back yard, it sits up on timbers and they can get underneath it. They drive Sadie crazy. Other than being ugly, they are generally harmless. They will fight if cornered, but prefer to run away or play dead.

Sounds like a Opossum to me. Could have a momma with babies. There pretty common everywhere their basic scavengers feed off dead animals. Like the poster before me said they will play dead so your dog may have not ate it.

They don't have US possums where she is. At least I don't think so.
|
Ja; You are correct! Now when I 'loose' him while hiking, at least I know he'll survive by himself! (that was a joke). God I want to know exactly how this went down.
Ya, we don't have US Possoms here, I wish we did, they are adorable! Though, we have had possums in our backyard before and Sunny has killed one in the past so it defiantly could have been a possum. Odd to why it was in my walls but whatever. There is a possibility it played dead and ran off.. Though there was a wet spot were it was and those spots are normally left after the dogs eat something. So, who knows. Though, there was scratching in the walls when I woke up so I don't know.. And I guess I never will! Maybe he got to eat it but maybe he didn't! |
You live in a shed?
Post a picture of this shed |

Here's some photos; Remember, this didn't have these cream walls once, it used to be just metal. I can get a outside shot if you want me to. http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/y...6/9ea2af8e.jpg http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/y...6/aab92ec5.jpg |
Thats it..i so want a shed to live in!...I like it.
|
Lol. Why thank you. I love it. I was so happy when mum said I could move in to the shed. Being in a small, cramped room was driving me insane.
|
Right? A huge room with tons of space for some furniture and the dogs...MUCH more logical and comfortable.
|
Interesting
|
Definately not what comes to mind when I think "shed".

We once had a single mouse that got in the house somehow - and tortured us for a couple days scratching inside the walls. One night, we heard one of the traps we set snap (it was the kind that traps them live inside; turned out This mouse set it off and got away...but got disoriented) - didn't think anything of it, just went back to sleep. In the morning, I had completely forgotten about the trap going off and sleepily walked to the kitchen to set the coffee maker I had forgotten to set the night before...and there was a small gray fuzzball at the top of the stairs. For some reason, I rationalized that it must be a sock that Duke had found (though I don't think my husband Or I own gray socks...LOL) and got close enough to picking it up that I yelped when it moved! Duke was a step or two behind me, as always, and immediately perked up...the rest I wish I had on video! He quickly zoned in on the mouse but didn't really know what to do with it - so he pounced, sniffed, jumped back. Pounced, sniffed, jumped back. All the while the mouse is frozen solid and I'm yelling for my husband to get up! Then, he pounced, Licked, jumped back. I guess that was too much for the mouse, and he ran for the kitchen - got about 2 feet and Duke killed him with one chomp - snapped his neck (ewwwww!).
Then it became the even More disgusting game of trying to get a mouse carcass from a dog that seemed to feel that throwing it up in the air a few times would make it do that fun scurrying thing again. Gross! |
