Default Do I have an American Pitbull?
Hi all

I saved this gorgeous boy from the kennels the other week. The vet said he is about 2 years old and needs feeding up as he is 29kg and his ribs can be felt so I guess his last owner did not look after him. He is excellent with other dogs, cats and humans. A few people have said he is an APBT, with the pictures attached can someone tell me if he is one please then at least I can read up on the breed!

Thanks in advance

Not in dogs of this athletic type and build it isn't. I would only worry if standing hip bones and vertebra existed.

His eyes make me want to say that he is a pit/ambully mix.

Have you ever owned a dog before? I'd read up on the domestic dog in general if you haven't, as well as the american bulldog/pit bull breed.

His weight looks fine to me, judging by the pics you've provided. He could use some exercise, imo.

Pit Bull; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pit_bull
AmBully:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Bulldog

He's very cute.

American Bull dog =/= Am Bully. His eyes, muzzle and head shape screams American Bulldog, not American Bully.

American Bull Dog:

American Bully:

(Not very many good pictures of one with out getting the grossly obesed ones...

ALSO! Here is my American Bulldog/ Pit Bull and god knows what else mix:

You are correct, LovePup. I put "Ambully" with the "American Bulldog" wiki. I was looking at the American Bully while replying.

Thank you for the fast replies and help! I have had a good look at the pictures and it looks like my boy is an American Bulldog. He is such a lovely dog. I am 38 years old and have had German Shepherds and Bullmastiffs since I was a child as that is what my folks had. When I moved out I got a German Shepherd but she sadly passed away in August 2010 at the age of nearly 12.

So......American Bulldogs, anything I have to be careful of as in foods that are bad for them, are long walks ok? The vet has given him some ointment for his skin as it is red and sore. He has been on this for 14 days and his skin is getting better although he is still scratching, especially around the ears. His paws seem to bleed easily as in between his toes?

His appetite is very good, walks well although very strong if he pulls!! Excellent with other dogs and people although he has a fear of cats, yep he runs away from them!!

For his paws, they might be a bit dry from malnutrition, you can get Vitamin E Lotion and rub into his pads and toes real good to help. Long walks are just fine; Mine loves them. And let him be a dog. LOL. Oh and swimming is a love if you ever find out if he likes it or not. Wears them out fast!

You can't say he's anything for sure just by looking at him...

If he were mine I'd just say American Bulldog/Pit Bull mix of some sort. (using the generic use of Pit bull)

That's what I was going to say. He reminds me of my dog, Nick.

With as much white as he has, I'd limit his exposure to the sun. My Bulldog has had one cancerous lump removed, and I've had several other people tell me their bulldogs have had cancer.

Feed him a good quality food, give him plenty of exercise and love him.

OH, they are also known for being bedhogs, so be prepared for that as well.

Interesting you say they are known for being bedhogs Kit, mine takes over my bed, well I say takes over, he has found out that as I am single at present he can sleep on the other side of my double bed and snore!

He really is a fantastic dog and we have bonded so quickly.

Thats what I love about mine! She makes a great cuddle buddy. Snow is solid white and I have had her outside a lot and I've had no issues with her skin. I think that cancer is on a dog to dog case. So I wouldn't worry about it until it comes your way. Take your dog outside! Let them be a dog lol.

@Celest- Funny you say that and then you turn around and say that the dog is the same thing I said. Some dogs you can make an educated guess by the characteristics the dog presents.
