A couple of weeks ago I posted a "help!" thread. I was still having trouble with Cleo pulling when we walked. I had tried every kind of collar and incentive but she still pulled. The only thing I didn't try was a prong collar because I thought she was too young (she's a year). But after encouragement and more importantly, education on how to use it as a training tool, I decided to give it a try. Well I'm happy to report IT WORKED! She actually corrected herself immediately. Every once in a while she might start to pull, but then stops . I make a point of stopping often with the heel command and giving her lots of love and praise before continuing. BIG THANKS to everyone who helped me with this one.

YAYYYY! WOOT WOOT! note, never EVER leave her un attended or tied up ANYWHERE EVER wit hthe prong. i do suggest that you have a normal collar as well a her prong on at the same tiem!!! It helps the prong stay UP where it is 'posed to be, and can also be used IF you need to tie her somewhere for a min.

YAY I am so glad its working I agree with Kamikaza about a normal collar as well, I use
Ella's Lead - Liberty's Attachment to attach my regular collar to my lead, its cheap at $12 and looks really nice with an lead in the same color (I have a 2 foot and a traffic lead from Ella's lead as well and they are all in black and match perfect, and everything looks good with black so fancy collar's still look nice ) |

I am so happy the hear the the prong collar is working! Everyone is giving good advice on how to use it. So I will just add, PLEASE DO NOT GET LAZY ABOUT PROPERLY TRAINING YOUR DOG TO HEEL. It is important to realize that the prong is a tool, not a permanent solution to the problem. The goal is to train your dog to the point that you no long need this tool to keep him in control.
Keep up the good work |
