easy walk

have anyone of you out there have or had bought the "easy walk" collar? I use the prong collar im kind up and down with it. i like it then i dont.. it just looks evil doesnt it? but at the same time in my mind i need to control her some way..

what do you guys think about the prong collar.. and the "easy walk" collar (chest collar)

I went to the store to try it on, walk around the pet store a little bit.. it seems it works but i wanted to get peoples opinion on it before spending money on it.. thanks

Harnesses don't stop my dogs from pulling. I think it actually makes it easier for them to pull. It might even encourage it.

Only thing good I got out of the harness on my boy, was that if need be, my bf could easily pick him up with it to get him out of a situation.

Prong collars are the only thing that gets me the correction out of my dogs that I'm trying for.. If that makes sense.

i get you. but his "easy walk" harness the leash attaches to the chest not from the back.

My dog doesn't do well with snaps. He get all sorts of freaked out so I have to use something that doesn't snap and those are only ones that hook to his back..

Now my other dog, he has an Easy Walk that clips on the front. He walks sideways when it's on. And he still doesn't give a shit if you're trying to tell him to knock off the pulling. He's the same as my boy, he only responds to the prong collars.

i had one and didnt like it that much, i found that i had to constantly adjust it and my dog figured out how to walk sideways and still pull. But I have heard a lot of people who have had good luck with them

i see i hop it works well for mines. if not i guess i just gotta stick with the prong

I tried one on Piper for awhile when she was having some sensitive skin issues on her neck and was in a pulling phase. It worked, I guess, but it doesn't teach them anything. I'd much rather use a prong for a couple sessions and teach them how to walk nicely vs. throwing an easy walk on.

If you don't like the look of a prong, they make "nicer" looking ones (they're what I use), that are milder than the stainless steel ones too: Amazon.com: StarMark Training Collar, Large, Blue: Home Garden

I have one... liked it for a while, and it did stop the majority of Roxie's pulling. It helped me train her to back up when she got too far out of a heel, so it's helpful in that way. Honestly, what you have to do is stop walking any time your dog pulls, and wait for it to either back up into a heel or get in the heel position. Cuz it's not gonna stop them pulling completely, it's just going to lessen the impact on your end and let them know that they're being a bit too much.

I have a front ring sense-ation harness and I really like it.

I used the prong briefly; but Veronica decided she would just pull like a bitch on the prong (I was using it when she started to get dog reactive and before I trained her not to lunge like a fool) and she scraped her neck up with it and she has sensitive skin, so I wasn't thrilled with it.

I'm actually using the harness again now because she is nursing a ccl injury; and sometimes with a flat collar she will still pull if something has her attention or she is excited.

I do agree I have to fairly frequently adujst the straps of the harness; but V. has never managed to pull herself out of it. I think it works pretty well; it's my personal preference over the prong.

I have an easy walk harness for Abby and it works pretty well for her. I use it when we are going to the school yard or a woodsy trail where she can have a bit more room to move around and she doesn't pull much. If something catches us by surprise she will lunge and the harness will pull her off her feet. Down she goes, quite surprised.

I had an easy walk for Peyton but after a couple months of using it, he realized he could just as easily drag me around with it on as he did with a normal collar. It was nice until he figured it out, lol. I traded it with a member here on PBC for a nice prong collar and haven't missed that harness for anything. The prong is my SAVIOR, lol.

I use the no-pull on my two and love them. I get ours from Bebop USA (owner's name is Sue) and she does custom sizes too. Plus, they are reversed stitched so it won't rub your dog's underarms raw (had that problem w/easy walk) and you have a few more color options.

I like using the no-pull harness in conjunction with a martingale collar and attach the lead to both rings for extra safety. Works great for us. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I liked the gentle leader much more than the easy walk, but then you have to deal with people asking why your dog has a muzzle on. Freida didnt fit right in the easy walk harness, she is strangely shaped. I agree with the comments that it doesnt teach the dog that its not supposed to pull. Freida is now using a slip-knot leash and I love it! Dont have to worry about breaking buckles or anything! She's pretty good except when there is something especially exciting to sniff

My dog has horribly sensitive skin, and the easy walk harness gave her a heat rash across her belly/armpits after a relatively short walk. I contacted the Easy Walk people after the fact, and they told me that "she will develop a callous after a while". Hmph... For the same reason, I am reluctant to use a prong collar. I also don't like how much freedom it gave my dog's head/neck (difficult to "steer" her focus away from potentially dangerous situations/objects). I've heard anecdotes about the gentle leader/halti causing neck injuries, but I've never actually met anyone that's had a dog injured using one. For this reason, I picked up a halti for my dog, and it's been fantastic. I use in in combination with a flat, sheepskin lined leather collar and a Schutzhund-style leather lead with one snap attached to the halti, and one attached to the collar. This way, I can hold onto the portion of the lead attached to her collar, and I still have the correction potential of the halti portion if necessary. I added some moleskin to the nose portion of the halti, as I was worried about irritation, and so far, so good.

We live in urban Seattle in a building/neighborhood with a lot of other dogs, so I am a little paranoid about control. Despite showing no signs of DA around other dogs in supervised situations, there are a few DA dogs and clueless owners in the area that I am wary of.
