Rigby set a new record just now with the toy she got for graduating beginner's obedience...
A whole 10 seconds. Seriously. Within ten seconds she had ripped it open and began pulling out the stuffing. I had to take it away, and now she is pouting on the floor. Apparently her Nylabones and antlers aren't good enough anymore. She wants plush with squeakers to destroy, dagnabit! In related news, now accepting donations of dog toys... |

Sounds like the time I got my dog a basketball. The thing was poped in one bite and in pieces a minute later. If your dog likes softer toys get a black goughnut. It's the only thing my dog hasn't destroyed. They're a little expensive but are super super tough and come with a lifetime warranty. It's the best toy I've ever bought hands down!

I am guessing it is the squeak the dog is loving and the kong is lacking.
Kong and toys like that play into the dog's instinct from wolf times of how good it is to chew and bite thick bones and gnaw out the calorie and nutrient rich bone marrow. Squeak toys play into the dog's instinct from the wolf times of the death squeal of small critters, so part of the 'play' is repeatedly delivering kill-bites which when done by a powerful dog results in destruction. Not all dogs are equally tuned in to the the 'wolf time instinct' and hence may have toy preferences. The GOOD thing is you can most likely remove the squeaker from the destroyed toy and find that it still works, and can be reinserted into a small stuffed animal, a sock stuffed with rags and sewn shut, or all sorts of other stuff. |

For some reason, my dogs love killing empty toliet paper rolls and paper towel rolls. I can give them one apiece and they are happy killing that for a few minutes. |
