Default would your dog survive……
I your dog was lost and alone in the wild do you think he would able to survive?
Say for instance your hiking in the wilderness and something happens and your dog slips and falls but you can hear that he/she has survived. They're not hurt but you can't gt to him either. It'll take you a week (5 day week) to get to him/her. Do you think he/she has the nessercary skills to survive on his own. Ie search for food, find water, stay quiet, not try to fight every wild animal it sees etc....

Ill go first. And my answer is hell no! Lol Eagle is a city dog she's loud spoiled and will whine till she dies if she's seperated from me. The only thing I know shell be able to do is find water when she's thirsty. She's not quie enough to stalk prey and thinks every nimal she sees wans to play with her (she's still a puppy) and she's clumbsy as hell so shell probably get her collar stuck on something lol.

For 5 days all the dog needs to do is find water. The dog would probably get back to your house before you.

Yes they would if they stuck together. If they got seperated from each other I don`t think Zena has the skills. She might survive off eating gophers, but her bad habbit of playing with coyotes would sadley be her down fall.

Reno on the other hand is a serial killer of all small animals. He has enough woods sense to be able to avoid geting drawn into a situation that he can`t win.he has become the master of eating small animals. So far he has kiled and eaten gopher, squirel, bunny, skunk, possum,a small badger, babby turkeys, big turkey ,small90lb pig and started to eat a coyote before I stopped him.As long as he steered clear of mountain lions he would be good to go.

Depends on who is lost.

I think Mexico (rezdog) would survive ok, for a week or longer. She'd probably just revert into the feral little puppy she was and eat grizzlies or something.

Marsha....I don't know. She would probably survive five days, but not much longer.

Umah, would find her way back home before five days was up.

Gypsy...I love her, she's my heartdog, but no. She wouldn't last.

Before we got Queen, she was living with the hubby's parents. Well, she did run away for ten days before. She came back to us skinny and a little scratched up but she came back to us. So Queen, I know she would survive. The rest really do not travel far from the house if they do "escape"

I honestly don't know if Mater would. Part of me tells me that he would be just fine. We were told he was found as a stray at only 5 months old.

The first thought was not a chance. Harley is one of those dorky ditzy helmet wearers.... I dont know if he could catch anything (maybe with practce he could though, hes finally getting better at fetch and can actually catch the ball before my lab half the time now but it took practice for a while to get to this point lol) I really dont know if he would be able to do it or not though. I would hope he could lol but I dont plan to loose him because I really dont know/have a feeling he wouldnt do so well.

We got Harley from the pound at 5 months as a "stray" he was pretty skinny and who knows how long he was running around before he got caught. So I dont really know if that means he was keeping himself alive or if he wasnt doing well and they found him in time lol I have a feeling it was the latter with the way he is now lol

I think Indy would have better luck. I dont know if she could catch anything but I think she could find water and stay out of trouble long enough to be rescued. Shes always been one to use her brain a little more lol

If Harley sticks with her they both may make it.. or Harley will get them both killed lol

My dogs aren't wild animals, they are domestic dogs bred by humans to live and cope in a human world...not sure, don't really like to think about it....

Here's a question. Would you? Alot of humans wouldn't...basic survival skills are lost to most of us.

Ike would be ok at finding water but not food and he would be terribly lonely to the point where he would just sulk til he died if he couldn't find humans.

Rita would likely be ok as she has the desire to hunt and kill small furries like bunnies, but she would also be lonely.

Owen would be a complete survive in the wild failure.

I fully believe, if me and Bugs were to get lost together, we would make it.

Alexandraandcompany mentioned it, but most of us wouldn't survive in the wild.

Not to toot my own horn but I'm one of the few that is very in tune with my environment. And can and HAVE taken care of my own without any modern technology(including lighter).

Bugs by himself. TOO damn spoiled and TOO damn goofy. I don't know if he could alone.
I want to have pride in him and say yes, but I doubt it.

My Doberman would not. She can hardly tolerate a TN winter. Brutus might if he found water and Fiasco would, no problem.

Liberty probably would. She's a critical thinker and is able to analyze situations to best suit her needs (which makes training her a b*tch). She's also shown she's capable of catching prey. Plus, she has an all-year coat, and would survive in summer or winter. She's also a rather imposing figure physically, and has shown she'll win in a fight with an animal of equal measure.

Lily, I don't know. At the end of the day, she's a dog. She does not think critically, and may succumb to a fox's whiles. She hasn't shown me yet that she can catch prey, but does have very high prey drive. She'd probably be able to dig out a bird or mouse nest. She would probably die of hypothermia in anything less than 0, but this winter her coat has gotten markedly thicker from being forced to acclimate, and she's comfortable at 20 degrees. I've never seen her in a fight, but she's a pretty submissive animal. This might work in her favor, though, if she can outrun her attacker (she's very gazelle like when she runs). I think more than anything, she would need to learn how to live her life without my guidance. She does not like to do things without my guidance, or without me in view. That would be the hardest thing for her to overcome.

Anyway, I like to think that my dogs would be able to survive. I think living in the wild would be much easier than trying to survive in the city, where most strays fall prey to cars and people than they do natural causes.

Scruffy might, She's a real good hunter, but she might pick a fight with an animal that she shouldn't, Because she's under the impression that she can take on any animal in the world.

Ace No, i just don't feel he'd be able to find food in the woods, unless he scavenged. But if He ran off with Scruffy probably

Boo I don't know, she has caught and killed some animals before but she's not as good as Scruffy, She's not As fast as Scruffy And she's not as smart....But she also wouldn't pick a fight with an animal she knew was too much for her...Perhaps she'd have a better chance of surviving that Scruffy....I really don't know

Chaos and Katie probably could make it...They love to go camping and chase rabbits and what not...both have caught them before.

Nos and Gauge....would be toast....Nos can't stand to be out even if it is a bit cold he just lays down and shivers...Gauge well he has no smarts..plus I don't think a deaf dog would have much of a chance

Most definately not. She would have a better chance of survival getting lost in a big city or suburb with lots of traffic than out in the wilderness. Atleast in a city or suburb she would go up to the first human she could find for love and attention. In the wilderness, well it would be no homeward bound happy ending. Not to mention she hates the wilderness. We took her to the Smokey Mountains and she loved walking around town where all the people and shops were, but oh how she hated that mountain trail. Too much mud and dirt for her. She is kind of a priss. She doesn't like being out of a climate controlled environment. She is kind of lazy too. No I don't reckon she'd stand much of a chance. Sasha could surprise me but I doubt it. I hope I never have to find out.

Now my Trouble who passed away earlier this year. He would have been able to survive your scenario. He was a very resourceful little animal and he loved the great outdoors.

I'm pretty sure that Jake and Harley could survive. (Especially if they stay together) Not so sure about the old man Conner, unless they took care of him.

I think they would be like most humans and run frantically until utterly exhausted and be too weak to survive after a few days....if the cold doesn't get them first. Summer would be a different story. Stella constantly eats fruits that fall from the tree, Sammy didn't, but has started to from the monkey see monkey do behaviour. That isn't enough of an instinct to live on though. But the amount of distance they could cover would be great and likely found in the hands of human (which could be their end as well).

Mollie... NO way!
Bella... for a day or two maybe...
Titus... 4-5 days on his body fat alone.
Zoey... not for a minute, she's too stupid.
Gizzmo.. no, he's too old and going blind now.

Cooper.... definitely! He was dumped, so he fended for who knows how long on his own until he was found. Amazing, out of all of them, the only one I think could make is is the foster. My dogs are pitiful and would think they were dying a horrible death if they were left out in the rain for 5 minutes.
