Ok, I can't help but to pipe in for the simple fact that I find the whole idea amusing. I do understand the comments about not getting 'jackets or sweaters' for dogs simply because of where I live. It's /very/ rare to see any sort of clothing on dogs here (dog boots are another matter, they actually need them to protect their feet from salt/ice) and anyone who does would probably get poked fun at.

We get insane winters, I'm talking so cold that the schools shut down. In the deep freeze of the winter -20c(-4f) is a GOOD day, it's not uncommon for it to drop to -30c (-22f) but we also have the arctic wind/storms that blast through and drop it even further, I've seen days hit -40c(-40f).. I've never had a jacket for a dog, ever. Boots yes, sweaters or whatever.. no. It's a quick trip to the backyard and back on those days.

Edit: Not that i'm making fun of anyone, i'm just finding it a little funny but I know you have to factor in the difference between our climate and yours. This is normal for us, we grow up with this sort of things and so do our animals.

The one you showed on e-bay looks warm, but anything with legs is a pain to put on.

I make my dogs their coats, double layer polar fleece.. They also have a wtaer proof coat from ruffwear. Oh yeah, I also make them scarves.

Playing in the snow in the coats I made for them.
Nick in the yellow M&M Nascar, and Roise in the camo.

And Rosie showing off one of their many scarves

Old Navy has dog clothes and they're usually really cheap (under $20). It doesn't snow where I live but it gets really cold rainy. We still walk for more than an hour when it rains so I put a raincoat on Molly and I suit up in raincoat and rainpants myself so that I don't have to carry an umbrella.

Molly in her raincoat from Old Navy:

The puffer coat is from Old Navy. We got boots for her since that was her first snow trip and we were snowshoeing. I didn't want to have to carry her out if her feet got messed up in anyway from not being used to snow and we did have to walk on some salted roads to get to the trail.

So pitbulls get cold easy huh.. Well I live in South Florida where we used to never get cold, but last Dec,Jan, it got down to 30 and stayed that way for a long time! That has never happened before, and we natives froze our butts off LOL. Its supposed to be that way this year too, because our whole summer has been high 90's again never happened before. So my question is do I need to get my pit bull puppy a sweater? she will be 6 months by then.

Default Where to buy jackets anf how your dog's reaction to cold weather
1. I am looking for somewhere I can buy a super warm jacket or sweater for winter for my dogs that are reasonably priced. Any Sugguestions?

2. How are your dogs reaction to winter's colder tempertures?

Beause I know Gottie's limits. He can go on longer walks if its around 30 degrees any colder and he can't stand it. I try to layer him up with a cashmere sweater under his doggy coat and booties but he doesn't like the cold. One of his hindlegs usually comes up. So I was just wondering what your short hair dog's reaction to the cold weather was like? This will also be my first winter with gigi and since she is thinner and just overall smaller in size than gottie i expect her to be less tolerant of the cold.

i ususally went to petco for most of my dogs that had issues as fitting them and ordering online doesnt work out too well for me (one specifically has a barrel chest and the coats start to get a little tight around the chest area) so try there? if not, you can also go to any freed and tack store and buy yourself a winter foal blanket, those fit dogs very well.

i do petco too, but i know our winters pale in comparison to yours, so i'm sure you need something thicker. we don't get that insane cold, so simon and sadie deal with it well, while the little ones need extra warmth. i do move simon's kennel into a warmer part of the house during the winter with extra blankets and he's done fine the last two years. i guess that's not much help... but maybe check petco. sometimes they have thick coats and sweaters. good luck! i love your dogs, btw.

Lucy deals with it. If it dips below 35, no walk.

It helps having Ethel around, since all she does in the winter is live outside and play in the snow, and Lucy has to get in on the action.

I know we need to do something before winter hits here too. Idk how much is our dogs are just used to the hot summer weather or what, but it's been getting in the 50's at night now so we've been opening the windows. My poor girl was shivering this morning, but that could be too because she wanted under the covers and was trying to make a point, since she also loves snow. The doggy Snuggies are a joke, their large only goes up to 28 lbs. Discrimination!

Dogs do not need jackets ro sweaters or shirts, you people are sounding like paris hilton wannabe's.
If your dog is outside in the winter, bring it inside,if you cant take the time to take the dog out to do its thing outside, then you really dont need a dog

There's actually more jackets on there than I thought there'd be...saves me shopping out of town now, since no one here carries jackets big enough anyway.

Dude chill out. My dog goes coyote hunting, tears around out in the snow, rolls in the dirt, kills rabbits when she can catch them. Doesn't make her any less or more of a dog to be wearing something to help keep her warm. Not everyone lives in the South, we have nasty winters and if I gotta wear 2 coats, I'm not going to let my dog shiver while I'm warm.

Uh, calm down. She didn't say she couldn't take her dog outside, she said she was looking for suggestions to make him more comfortable on walks since he doesn't tolerate the cold well. If I want to put a jacket on my dog to make it more comfortable in freezing temps, I will.

Anyway. I honestly don't walk my dogs a lot because we have had way too many loose dog encounters. But I do want to get both of them some type of nice jacket type thing for if I do during the winter.

I prefer blankets like these, SmartPak Thinsulate Dog Coat - Dog Apparel from SmartPak Canine

I don't like the fleece kind because all their hair gets on them and it's a pain to get off. Plus since I've always had horses, I like the look of those blankets better. That site I linked has some nice ones too, and the prices aren't bad. All of their stuff is really good quality and their customer service is awesome.

Sorry when it's -30, the dogs get cold, even for a quick run outside to potty. One of the dogs doesn't mind so much but Jersey doesn't do so well when it's really cold and a sweater helps quite a bit. We just have cheap sweaters and coats from old navy I think. Short haired dogs aren't made for this climate.
