Its been hotter than the hinges of hades lately-and very humid. While Bella seems to be doing ok with the heat,Beep isn't doing too bad-she's just blowing TONS of coat,Mischa my coated gsd isn't fairing so well.I do not want her to overheat, but shaving the whole dog trashes the coat and some amount of coat is insulative.
I am thinking about shaving only her belly,so she can cool down.Do you think it would help her,to clip her belly? |

I usually clip Liberty's belly (not yet this year). Her hair is ridiculously long under there. I do a spay clip, just the abdomen. It keeps it from getting matted, and I think she likes that she can put her bare belly on the cold kitchen floor.
I wouldn't shave anything else though. Right now, it's 90 degrees and 64% humidity. On days like today, Liberty goes out to pee then comes right inside. She isn't shedding abnormally, even when she spends hours out on my mom's front steps when we're over there. As long as you watch them and make sure they're ok, dogs are pretty good at letting you know when they're too hot and need some AC and water. |
