Labs are stuuuuuupiddddddd. I know a lady that had her leg broken because her lab ran into her....and then it broke her wrist when it drug her. I used to teach dogs how to swim and labs would jump in the water and try to drown other dogs. Like, wtf is that??

Mastiffs drool too much and are too big.

I love pit bulls.....

I love their short hair - good for the groomin'

I looovveee their thick little bodies - good for the snuggles

I love their energy - good for hikin' and runnin' and swimmin' and everything

I LOVE their intelligence - good for safety and training...makes for a better partner

I love their breeding - good on my wallet in vet bills

I lovvveee that they're toy oriented - good for buying gifts and keeping weight off

I love their love - good dog. Never too much love, never too little, very devoted love.

There's so much more that I freaking LOVE about pits. I'm obsessed with them.

---------- Post added at 03:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:44 PM ----------

Not to go on and on...
but I love how they're down like charlie brown.

One of many examples- I was at the shelter the other day doin some training with the pits. I always wash my dog when I'm finished with it (I figure it kinda helps them get into a home when they smell fresh and clean and don't have crap stuck to em)

So I took Juliette into the grooming room. At first she was like, "HELL NAW!" with her toes splayed and everything...until she took a sniff around the room. Then she was like "Ok, maybe". Then I lifted her in the tub and started rubbing her down and she was like "Hmm..not bad". By the time we got to the nail trim she was like "Dayum- I feel like a girl again! Thanks!" and she was givin kisses and the whole bit.

When I used to work with other breeds in the shelter, if they weren't totally into a bath in the first place then we'd end the thing with them growling at me...

Was wondering why you guys chose a pitbull-type dog opposed to a lab or mastiff? Did you get one cause they're cute, or cause they're cool? Good companions? Or any other reason out there. Just curious. If a story is behind your dog, feel free to share!
I didn't. Granted we don't know if our dog is a mixed with pit or not. We do know she is a Terrier mix. I got her as a companion for my other dog. We were under the impression that she would be 12-14lbs full grown. She is currently 27lbs. She is full grown. She is solid very solid. Would I have chosen her if I had know she was going to be this size? Probably not, at the time the place I lived had a 15lb weight limit and I was looking for a Chihuahua. She was adopted to us as a Chi mix (yeah right) and they said she was older than she was. Vet determined when we adopted her she was maybe 9 weeks old. Well she turned out to be the best dog I've ever had. Because of her I have studied up on tons of breeds and my next dog will be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. She may or may not be a pit mix but she inspired me to get out and learn about different breeds and helped me find the breed I would like to have. They seem to be about as close in temperment and size to her that I could find.

Labs are stuuuuuupiddddddd.
That's a pretty shallow statement.

My moms' lab (my heart dog) can unlock and open almost any door/gate/window that she comes across.
We had to get special locks put in just to solve this problem.
For a dog, that is smart.
If not, I don't know what you're expecting from dogs but I think it is too much.

...and I have a Lab (I trained) out in Montana right now saving lives as a Wilderness SAR dog. I definitely would NOT call him "Stuuuuuuuuuupiddddddd" or "stupid" even.

I had a Pitt Bull/Rott Mix before named Daisy, and she was a fabulous dog, i called her my little junk yard dog! Very loyal, and lovable. Rowdy, kinda fell into my lap, when a friend of mine couldnt keep him, due to her being alergic to his fur for some reason, and so i wound up with him. Despite the chewing, nipping, ect, he has turned out beautifully!

I was volunteering at the local shelter. Katie and I bonded immediately. Finally one day, one of the other workers asked me to take the dog I was walking inside and come back for Katie. She said "all she wants to do is pull me to you. So you walk Katie and I will go in and get the one you are walking". So she picked me!! and so I brought her home.

I remember being five and wrestling with my uncles pitbull. I have always had a love for them. They are smart, athletic, loyal, loving and the most beautiful dog there is hands down (imo).and because I heard they eat poodles lol. It surprises alot of people that I own one coming from Southern CA. The media has people afraid to even look at them. But they have always been special to me. 2nd to me is the dobbie, they are one of the most loyal alert breeds I have ever seen.

My son wanted a dog ... rules were it had to be a Medium size dog with SHORT hair and inexpensive.

Went to flea market one weekend with my son to get the puppy ....

Out of the 10 folks selling puppies ... 9 of them were selling pitbull puppies (yes North GA BYB's) . I wasn't to keen at first about the idea of a Pitbull ... but I told my son we were going to flea market to get a puppy so we were leaving with a puppy.

So out of the 75 or so pitpull puppies we looked at ... Meg was the coolest looking one ... sellers said both parents were very mellow (Dad was laying under the sellers chair just hanging out) .. and I was able to get the price down from $100 to $60 ....

All in all ... it worked out great ... she's a good dog ...

I got Gracie when she needed a home. Her owner abandoned her, she was left alone in a backyard and the options available were my house (no other animals), a house where she'd be running the yard with 2 other 'pits', or the shelter. Well, she liked me, and I don't like the idea of 'pits' running in packs, so I took her home.

I have to say that though I chose the breed Puck chose me at 3 weeks and again at 4.5 weeks both times I visited the litter he was the only puppy that made a beeline over to me and just lay his head in my lap and wagged his tail (even when presented with a plate of food), some of his litter mates were busy barking and the others were in corners being antisocial or sleeping or eating. Thankfully his temperament matched what I was looking for (as far as one can tell with a 4.5 week old pup). I've never been picked by a pup it was sweet.

I feel guilty a little that I convinced his owners to let me bring him home that young but I have worked with orphaned pups, the mother was done feeding, they were feeding crap food only twice a day, the whelping box was not set up properly (sleeping area, play area, feeding area, potty area and it was way too small) and the puppies had had no dewormings and wouldn't have had any shots before coming home.

This wasn't a BYB just an accidental litter (but a second one). I don't feel guilty that I talked the owners into spaying and neutering and found them a local rescue that did pits for free and they have done it by now I think.

I haven't had my own yet and it will probably be a long time before I have one with 'papers' but I do plan on adopting a few from the shelter. I've been working with them for a couple of years and just love what I have seen from them - everything from the way they look to the way they act. Granted, none of them have had 'papers' but I've seen enough to decide that I can find what I consider a good example if I check in frequently. It would probably only take me a couple of weeks. We get about 50 'pit bull' mixes a week here, so it's not difficult.

My wife wanted a puppy and we both agreed that we would definitely get a rescue dog instead of going the pet store route. We wanted a medium sized, short haired dog that would be affectionate and active (my wife is a runner). I started researching dog breeds and learned about the undeserved reputation and ridiculous media distortion that afflicts pitbulls and the disproportionate number of pitbulls that are euthanized. Then I found out that a woman I work with was heavily involved in a pitbull rescue group.

The first time we visited Aggie, she ran up to us in a fit of excitement, licked my wife's feet and then promptly plopped down and fell asleep on her lap. From that moment on, there was no turning back. We will own pitbulls for the rest of our lives.

Aggs is everything we could want in a dog. The right size (looks like she'll top out at around 40-45 lbs), great temperment, learns quickly and physically beautiful. We are both so glad that we looked past the media hype. The only downside is the reaction that people often have. That said, Aggs has already won both our families over and is proving a great ambassador for the breed. We're changing minds one person at a time and couldn't be happier with our decision to adopt her.

You should totally follow me around all day and pin point my generalizations just to make yourself look smarter...it'll definitely earn you brownie points and all that shit.

I was matched with Corky -- sight unseen -- when I volunteered to run dogs for a local, all-breed rescue group. Corky was my first match and we've been inseparable since. I had no intentions of getting a pitty but now I want to know all I can.
