2 of my friends' pits "smile".
Scared the crap out of me the first time I went to their house (they now have 4 adult pit bulls, a pit bull puppy+2 of it's litter mates they are fostering, and an adult pit bull lab mix), because I'd never seen a dog smile before. Not to mention their dogs are quite intimidating (I love pit bulls, but I still get a little freaked out from time to time, especially if I'm in danger of being knocked down and smothered with kisses). |

MJ doesn't smile, but if she's REALLY excited to see me, she will let out a really deep, soft growl. It's at a very specific tone that I've never heard her make except at these times. She didn't start it until about 6 months ago, and it honestly made me wonder what was wrong with her the first time she did it. Now I know it's just her happy growl for me.

My dog doesn't do it, but I've seen a couple that do & it's really cute!
The 1st time I saw a dog smile, was years ago at work I was walking through the kennels just to see how the dogs were doing. And I saw a Dalmatian who was new- she jumped up on the door of her run and showed me her teeth! No growl of course, but I had never seen a dog do this before, and she didn't have a "warning" on her tag. I went & asked someone if she was mean & they said "No, she is so sweet and she smiles at you." I had 2 go back and see her big ol smile again, I loved it! ---------- Post added at 10:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:38 PM ---------- Slowan- I just wanna grab your dogs face and give him a Big Smooch~! He is so handsome |

I had a heavy Boudreaux dog who would smile & my Doberman does as well. Eli dogs are notorious for "smiling," some even call it the Eli grin or Eli smile.
Slowandlow's pup is definitely smiling (& it's actually one of the better dog smiles I've seen), but I have always heard that type of smile called a "submissive grin." Check these threads out to see more smiles! Can your dog smile like this - Pit Bull Forums Smiling dogs - Page 2 - Pit Bull Forums #21 on the last link this one is a classic! Blessings ... |

I had a foster that ''smiled'' as we called it. People were always scared of her because of it and it was so stupid because the rest of her body language was obviously rediculously happy. You could get her to do it, too if you talked all stupid to her and mentioned it. lol I actually have met two other pit bulls that did this as well.
