I'm worrying that fostering is not the right thing for me to do, what do you think?

I have now learned that the lady that runs things is a vet tech, so she just worms them when she gets them and fosters them immediately.

She just emailed me after having Bonnie for 2 days (we were thinking foster to adopt but 2 days is not enough time to see if we want to adopt her or not) and said she might have someone that wants to adopt her.

She said she has another dog I could bring home right away. Should I worry about these dogs coming into my house as far as diseases? My dogs are fully vaccinated but you never know. She said they all pass temperament tests previous to being fostered, but because of Bonnies unknown diarrhea I have no clue if she has brought anything into my house. So I am going to go meet with her and meet this new family and if they do not want Bonnie she will be coming back home with me.

But because of the lack of vet check ups with those fosters, should I be worried about my own dogs health or will it be ok? I just love helping dogs and I love love love fostering.

I would quarantine any dog I brought into my house. Period. No matter how long someone else had it.

Ya. Quarentining is a good plan. You could wind up with more than you bargained for, like a huge vet bill with all your animals sick because they picked something up from a new comer.

You may also want to look into fostering for another rescue if this one makes you uncomfortable. Follow your instinct, its rarely wrong. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/wink.png

I know the Rescue I work with...does vet check ups and such, neuters/spays, up to date on all shots/vaccinations, rabies, and also microchips.

One time, I was supposed to get one dog a while ago...never got the dog because the Dog ended up with Kennel Cough and with me having 5 of my own dogs...Director decided not to send me to Foster him which is a good thing because I would have told her nope, I can't Foster him http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png

Anyways, I would hope she does more than just worms them...Maybe you should, if you're still interested in fostering, find another more reputable Rescue.

Yea I might think about that, I just cannot see some dog coming into my house and making my babies sick. It said up to date on all shots and dewormed on the ad for her, but she is a vet tech so she did it at home. She said she will come get Bonnie from me when the people want to meet her. If one of my fosters had diarrhea, I don't think I'd want to adopt him/her out until the issue was resolved or cleared up.

I always keep my fosters seperated from my dogs for a few days while I get to know the dog. I once had a dog that was thought to have possible latent distemper which I found out after the fact and man was I a mess worrying about my dogs even though they are fully vaccinated. There are definitely some risks in bringing dogs of unknown history into your home. My vet suggested vaccinating my dogs every 6 months instead of every year since I foster but I have stuck with the yearly routine.

I agree with pbh. This woman should be doing more than just deworming them. In addition to doing an actual fecal, heartworm check, and giving vaccinations, she should be providing documentation to you as not just proof, but to have on-hand.

whos the rescue your fostering with? i also agree with Alma and PBH on finding another reputable Rescue.
if you still want to help dogs and fostering/rescuing. one more little question, how many dogs do you have now? (personal and fosters)

Alma and PBH have great advice... You might want to check with another Rescue and foster for them... no Rescue should send a sick dog into your home, without you knowing about it beforehand.
