Default leash laws.
So yesterday, we get a knock on our door by a police officer saying we need to go to the upper house. The upper house is where my Mom's Bf Tommy keeps his bulldogs. (My Mom is scared of them and won't let him keep his dogs in her yard) We walk up to the upper house and next to Pock's chain spot is the body of what used to be a JRT. Apparently the old lady across the street saw the JRT go into the yard and saw Pock go after the JRT and felt the need to call the cops saying she was worried for her multiple dachshund's lives due to the fact there is a dangerous dog across the street...

Luckily we got a police officer with common sense. He told the lady she shouldn't have anything to worry about since there is a leash law in the county and that if she obeyed that law her dogs wouldn't wind up in our yard. I'm glad nothing else came of this incident, animal control wasn't called in and Pock wasn't declared a dangerous dog. It just makes me mad that some incompetent person was too lazy to properly contain their dog and in the end caused the needless death of their dog. How hard is it to keep your dog on a leash?!

How hard is it to keep your dog on a leash?

You'd be surprised....some people feel their dogs are well behaved and should have the freedom to walk.poop and romp where they please...

We have no idea who owned the JRT, the only thing it had was a red collar with no tags or any form of identification.

I just want to reiterate the thank God for police officers with common sense. I love that part of the story. to bad for the JRT, that part is sad, But a leash or proper containment would have saved it and the fault is with an irresponsible owner again. I am glad nothing bad happened to your moms boyfriends bull dogs.

Sad, once again a dog suffers the consequences for an irresponsible owner.

I'm pretty sure the landlord won't allow us to put a fence up. So, I just hope that everyone keeps their dog on a chain or leash to keep them safe.

Oh man, that sucks!!! That busy body needs to mind her own business and her own dogs. Im so glad it turned out as it did and sorry you had to deal with it.

My neighbor had an Akita and she would come on my property and chase my cat. After she got hold of it once time, my oldest son kicked her with his steel toe boots and she yelped and let her go and ran home. Well the guy was ticked so I calming explained..

"Look, if my cat gets in your yard and your dog kills it then so be it, but, if my cat is in her yard and your dog comes over and attacks it, were going to have a problem." All delivered with a smile. The next day he reinforced his gate so she couldnt get out.

You would be surprised. We have a loose min pin in my neighborhood. We have called the police, I offered the owners a collar and leash, the dog tried to attack my dog. Some owners just don't get it.

i hate stupid irresponsible dog owners. if we have to keep our 'pitbulls' on a leash, then the people who own non 'pitbulls' bully breed should keep their effing dogs on a freaking leash.

Absolutely as it is pretty much the law anyplace you go now. Any owner who really cares about 'Fluffy' will keep her on a leash for her own safety.

Yep,these drunks who used to live across the street had a cute sweet little puppy last year. The pup was allways running off whenever someone on the street was in their yard or walking down the street. He wasnt trying to attack or anything he just wanted to be friends with evryone.Well after about the fifth time I had to return him I offered them a collar and leash and the dumb bitch was like "Oh no,we want to train him to stay in the yard without being tied up" Nevermind that this pup was only about ten weeks old and there are rabbits everywhere in our neighborhood so of course he was going to run and chase the bunnies. They refused to tie him up or even supervise him when they let him out, they would just open the door and let him go(unfenced yard). The poor thing ended up getting hit by the city bus that goes right down our street every half hour.It was so sad I cried for days,If only they would have put a leash on him. Some people are just freakin morons.

I am not for more laws what so ever, but if there was like a test to weed out the owners like this before they get a dog I would be for passing a law to make people have to take said test to own any breed of dog. You know what cats as well.

I live in the city here in knoxville, and there are loose dogs all over the place. So much for a leash law.
