Default Bell in ear cropping? What's the bell part all about?
Just wondering because I'm going to be getting my pups ears done soon, but allot of people tell me to say "NO BELL" Anyone have any pics of the difference. I tried looking it up, didn't see anything.

How old is your pup? Ear cropping should be done by 12 weeks of age.

the idiots who are telling you NO BELL are just that, IDIOTS.

If you don't know what to ask for and how to work with the vet on what you want, at least find a pic of a dog that has a cut that you want, take that with you.

I agree with BigAnt. Take pictures of what you want your pups ears to look like, and ask to see pictures of previous croppings he has done. He should have pics of his work.

why is it to late? If I was to do it now would there be any type of risk or problems?

The dog is too old, no reputable vet will do it at this age, you missed it by about 14 weeks.

His/Her ears are set, leave them be and move on.

The procedure is much more painful, the more developed the ear is. Also, the cartilage of the ear is pretty much mature and shaped at your dog's age, so training the cropped ear to stand correctly is more than likely a no-go.

The difference could be compared to you being circumcised as a baby, vs as an adult man. It can be done, but it will be more painful, will have a longer recovery and healing period and "won't look as nice"... so why bother.

Bell is the bottom of the ear. It goes to a tip and then bells down. I chose the show crop. I'm sure if you use the search function on this forum you'll find the diagram for the different crops. No bell would be like the fight crop.

That's not true. My dog has no bell and has a medium show crop. A lot of people choose no bell when they crop, it just looks a lot better. I like the crop to look clean, not furry and lumpy, if that makes sense.
