Killer robots will happen. They've already started: Killer Robots - We’re all going to die… It’s only a matter of when

There are robots out there that have already killed. A robot is a machine that follows a program & they are used in many industries. If you get in the way of one it will just continue running even if that means that your head is now a part of what it is making. Industrial accidents happen all the time, some resulting in death.

Killer robots? I'm sure the military have been looking into that one!
In general, the astronomical cost of robots that would be capable of killing humans would prohibit them being made, if we're talking about robots that could physically keep up with humans (running, climbing walls, climbing stairs, navigating terrain etc). At the moment, robots can barely walk, let alone run, climb, hold a gun and kill people. I think the question is mixing two issues - that of Artificial Intelligence and that or Robotic Engineering. Robots themselves only do as their told, within a physical framework we provide. Only once AI is added can a robot make a decision to kill. This may happen, but I really don't think so. As it stands, robots are incapable of making a decision to kill. They could kill by mistake (someone getting caught in car manufacturing machinery, for example) but without AI, which is a long way off, the aren't capable of knowing what killing is. |

Robots.
My fiance and I were talking about robots the other night and how he doesn't think there would ever be anyone out there who would make a killer robot. Yes, I am aware of how odd this conversation is, I digress, anyway, he basically started saying that robots don't have the power/will to just kill people but I always figured that one day if someone wanted to make a robot do that they would. His issue with that is that he doesn't understand why anyone would want to do that. My view on that would be if people can walk into a building and shoot people for no reason other than they are upset why wouldn't those same types of people make a killer robot. Long story short..what do you think about robots and/or killer robots? |

-also loved i, robot, but anyways
I believe that someday, the technology will exist to create a humanlike robot that can think creativly and can be kept from 'free thinking'. But on the part about killer robots, i think so. I mean think about it, there was the person who invented the knife to help us, but then there was the person who used the knife to hurt someone. So i guess that as long as there are bad people, things used for good will inevitably be used for bad by them, so yes. And about the walking into a building and shooting people thing, im with you. The world of robotics would open up whole new possibilities to commit/get away with crimes, but then there will be robots that are used to get to the bottom of such things. Thanks, QL |
