Hughes ended up sitting in his own shit watching films for 6 months, I wouldn't want to go down that route again. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo.../surrender.gif

Spruce Goose

Nevermind if it's practical but do you think we could build a lighter plane thats just as big as the Sp[ruce Goose out of wood today? With the rot resistant, and fire resistant lumber and all...

Treated wood is so much heavier than non-treated wood, I am not sure if it could be done practically.

Of course you could build one as big or even a hundred times bigger. Getting it off the ground would be another matter.

Moto: You can make a manhole cover fly if you put a big enough engine on it.

I was just watching a show on mega structures and the Spruce Goose was on the list and it spiked my curiosity.

Doesn't seem very likely. Wood is just impractically dense. We can manufacture metal into lighter components, but wood, just wood.

Even Hughes could only "get it up" a short time, a few ft a few yards.. Not practical !!
