Default Tennesee Pastor Kills UN Workers in Afghanistan
No wait, that was Islamic Fascists who decided death of whoever is closest was the penalty for someone half way around the world insulting their religion. Yet Harry Reid and Lindsey Graham decided to blame the Tennessee Pastor who burned a Koran. Now they want to "find a way to hold people accountable." No, not the murderers in Afghanistan, but the Americans in the US who excercised their right to free speeech.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says congressional lawmakers are discussing taking some action in response to the Koran burnings of a Tennessee pastor that led to killings at the U.N. facility in Afghanistan and sparked protests across the Middle East, Politico reports.

“Ten to 20 people have been killed," Reid said Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “We’ll take a look at this of course. As to whether we need hearings or not, I don’t know.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Congress might need to explore the need to limit some forms of freedom of speech, in light of Tennessee pastor Terry Jones’ Quran burning, and how such actions result in enabling U.S. enemies.

"I wish we could find a way to hold people accountable. Free speech is a great idea, but we're in a war," Graham told CBS' Bob Schieffer on “Face the Nation” Sunday.

“During World War II, we had limits on what you could do if it inspired the enemy," Graham said, adding certain speech can “put our troops at risk.”

Fear is a dangerous thing, and that is exactly what Reid and Graham's response to this is; fear.

We should thank thank Pastor Jones. Despite his attention whoring, he has reminded us why we are at war with a sliver of Islam so backwards they can't distinguish between ideas on paper and the paper they are written on.

I expected this from Reid. I didn't expect this from Graham....

The good news is that this is probably just hollow posturing. Surely, the majority of Congress wouldn't be stupid enough to limit free speech over this. Politicians can be dumb, but they're not THAT dumb.

There is no limit to what "Progressives" believe they can accomplish via legislation.

Never underestimate the intoxicating scent of marble.

Well, even if they did pass some limit on free speech, it would most likely be struck down almost immediately by the courts as unconstitutional.

Depends on who sits on the bench.

I'm assuming you took the OP directly from FOX, Terry Jones church is in Florida, not Tennessee. But then again, when did FOX ever get a story right?

I'm inspired to create a work of Art from this.
A sculpture of Jesus on the cross, made entirely of feces.

Sure, but even the more liberal Justices take a mostly Libertarian view of free speech.

Think of it like this. If campaign donations, funeral protests, and flag burnings are free speech, I don't see how Quran burnings wouldn't also be free speech.

Most of the current Justices have already ruled in favor of protecting the aforementioned forms of speech, so Quran burnings seem very likely to be protected as well.

How about these guys constitutents simply getting these senators fired? They should be ashamed to have these guys in Senate, particulary Reid, who acts like this all the time.

So some on both sides of the aisle want to limit free speech! Is there Muslim money getting donated to Congress-wimps? Why doesn't Congress go after the actions of our own Nation, in the M.E. if they are so concerned about Muslims attacking and killing others? I don't reckon the bad preacher is contributioing to campaign coiffers. Yes, I am skeptical and pessimistic about the stupid idiots in D.C. And for good damn reason.

Just like some Americans cannot distinguish between the ideals represented by a flag and the pieces of cloth that sometimes get burned.

The Afghan people are a very proud people. They have nothing else other than their pride and their religion. By defacing the Koran you are shitting all over anything that they have, leaving the expression of their frustration and outrage as understandable and expected.

The asshole unchristian preacher knew this and is simply an attention whore. If everyone ignored him the whole issue would go away.

He ghas freedom of speech but the media could simply decide that he is not newsworthy and ignore him so he can quietly crawl back under his favourite rock.

So?

I agree that the media should just turn away from the fuck who did this and his church in general. But I, in no way, hold him responsible for the actions of those animals.

Burning books is always ridiculous, but killing people half a world away because someone else burned a book is just flat-out insane.

The Afghanis responsible for this atttack would have killed people regardless of what the reason was. If it weren't a dude burning a book thousands of miles away it would have been because of a stray Coalition bomb, or because they didn't like the way the UNAMA conducted an election, or because the tribe down the street got better water rights than they did.

To in any way suggest that there was actualy a true causitive relationship between a Koran burning and a murder half a world away is ridiculous.

The insurgency was watching those UN workers for a long time just waiting for a good propaganda opportunity to attack.

Did not know that Graham was a progressive.
Though they dominate the democratic party, "progressives" know no party boundaries.

So long as people look to the government to solve their problems, there will someone of all flavors to serve.
