Default Navy Fights Mickey Mouse for SEALs Trademark
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011...use-trademark/

SEAL Team 6 isn’t going down without a fight.

The Navy is challenging Disney’s attempt to trademark the name of the elite squad responsible for taking out the world’s most wanted terrorist.

First bin Laden now Mickey?! Get 'em.

I think it's ridiculous that Disney feels they should have trademark over SEAL Team 6. I would think the Navy should get that trademark. I wouldn't think you could trademark a military unit - even ones that don't necessarily exist.

Amazing how times change. In WW2 hollywood cartoon shops created Navy logos and mascots and welcomed the use of their existing characters by the military. I think that Walt would not have pursued this action against the SEALs.

The next SEAL team mission to catch or kill an Al Qaeda leader will obviously be randomly and coincidentally dubbed "Operation Mickey Mouse."

Well, let's be fair, Disney is a business, saw an opportunity to capitalize on a name, and "Hey look, no official trademark exists!" It probably will go the way of the compromise in the end as they probably can mutually co-exist without one really infringing on the other, but we'll wait and see.

the next Disney animated blockbuster is going be a team of harbor seals that break into shark territory to rescue a dolphin...something like that.

Chuck Norris, Sly Stallone, Russell Crowe, Ice T, and Manny Pacquiao as Seal Team 6 (they won't be able to use all caps for Seal as a result of the trademark settlement with the Navy)...with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the shark (since he can't play a hero anymore).

Ryan Seacrest as the dolphin.

Maybe Steven Seagal playing "Steven Seagull" as their air cover.

I'm with you, but if Disney tried to sue for copyright infringement, the US Attorney could do an impersonation of Joss Ackland in Lethal Weapon (2?) and say, "Sovereign immunity....ha..ha..ha.."
