You need more than just limited music knowledge to appreciate that kind of music. The point is he bashes anything just about that's not metal while we don't sit here and bash his music.

Also FYI, I wouldn't say his music knowledge is expansive just because he listens to the metal bands he does. I know quite a few people who listen to the same bands but they don't do it because they're musically knowledgable; they do it because they think it's cool to scream and headbang along -_-.
