Whether you can go through things or not depends on each projection, and it has to do with various factors- so you can project a million times and one day find you can't go through a wall. Now, many people may tell you that if you can't get through a wall it means it's not an OBE, but I have had one that did not cooperate this way (I actually felt pain when I bounced back from the wall) yet it was later verified, that what I had seen had happened, and it was away from home.
So I think part of the issue with this has to do with the difference in 'density' (for lack of a better term) from your energetic body and your energetic environment- the closer or more 'synched' you are to it, the more 'concrete' it is, so you may interact with it a little more than you want to.

As to destinations, I have always had trouble with it, and the way I've dealt with this is to ask to be taken somewhere specific before I attempt the projection, because during the practice something else may come up and I'll get distracted. And then, I just approach the exploration as it develops.
