Even if you didn't think he was a starter at safety, he's at the very least good depth at the position (which we all admit is an issue). Now we have to scour the list of remaining free agent safeties (that we passed over before in favor of Jackson) to replace him.

how is he good depth at safety? he's a corner. he hasn't played the last two years because he blew out each knee.

no, there were a couple good options available. but they didn't come at bargain basement prices, so they weren't considered.
