I let the study above ^ speak for itself, no need to defend it. If you think you're at risk of letting your dog reproduce my accident (not uncommon) neutering is the responsible way to go. Hell, go on and neuter the dog if you think it's balls are ugly. (That's one reason you do it isn't it Kady? Totally reasonable. I'm pro-cropping so it'd be hypocritical of me to say otherwise.) But don't lie and say you're doing your dog any favors, it's an owner benefit thing. Which there's nothing wrong with that... you get a dog to enjoy it so if you can make your life more enjoyable/easy... your call. I personally prefer not to neuter for health reasons.

But I'm not gonna lie and say it's not unhealthy to neuter because people are irresponsible. WTF.
