another question is, how expensive is something like that? would it be the same or cheaper to have chain link kennel runs up instead?

I imagine it would be cheaper per dog then a safe, escape proof kennel would be. Plus they get room...which is the whole point.

It would be a lot more physical work to set up though. You'd need at least two people just to set the beams. I'd bury them at least four feet and set them in concrete. The beams are probably the most expensive part, followed by the heavy weight cables. The hardware...probably not very pricey...but you'd want to make sure you purchased the strongest grade for the size needed. You don't wanna go price shopping on things like this.
