I can say with 100% certainty that spaying will not change the dogs body type. Slayer is just as lanky as she has always been and was spayed at 5 months.

Also, if it makes you feel any better there is nothing to be scared of. Just make sure you read all the papers they give you and keep her from getting over hyper for a week or so.
Good post! Read up on the info and what to look out for.... mine did fine with everything except the "staying still" for a week. There was no way to keep Zoey still for one minute. That dog came home like nothing had ever happened to her. I basically just kept her crated 24/7 except a brief potty break a few times a day. She was my difficult one because I couldn't keep her still.

Psh, I'd love it if Piper could gain weight easier! Definitely not, and she was spayed at 6 months (before her first heat).

You're going to want to wait til after she's done with her heat to spay her btw; most vets charge more to spay if they're in heat.
Good post... I sometimes tend to forget that they charge extra if you have a dog in heat. I had everyone spayed before their first heat except Zoey, and that was just because I couldn't get it scheduled and crazy work hours with overtime. She managed to come in heat one time, I made an appmt for the next week! I didn't have any intact dogs at my house, but I was terrified that one of the loose roaming dogs down the road would somehow get to her. I was a basket case filled with worry until I could get her in!
