I fostered one, they are not made to be chainedoutside. They are companion dogs that have very high territorial and protective instincts. They bond very close to the family and love to be near them. There are different lines, you have the show lines which many say changed the breed and they call them Dogo Canarios, basically what the amstaff is to the APBT. The Dogo Canario were bred exclusively for show and looks therefore their robust figure has ruined their performance ability. The working lines which are the best can be too much dog for the average owner, they are extremely territorial and could be extremely dog agressive. They were bred to work as catchdogs and watchdogs however some fought them so the lineage can have severe dog agression.

In my opinion this type of dog needs a single pet home because there is a lot to learn about this breed. This dog is stubborn and it will try to test you, I think they are beautiful dogs but you have to get them from a quality breeder that health tests and temperament tests them. They are extremely strong when they are grown so if you need to establish your leadership or lots of problems can arise.

This is the boy I fostered for a few days

by the way I forgot to add that this dog was around 120 pounds and he was only 9 months old.
