I've only bought one purebred cat but it was a great experience and I got what I paid for. I see people selling purebred persians and siamese and the like for 150$ and I am sure that is the equivalent of BYB for cats.

Yep, and the cats of BYBs can certainly suffer from it. My mother has one Ragdoll cat that she bought from a legitimate breeder. A few years ago, she went to check out a litter of "Ragdolls." When she got there, the cats obviously were not Ragdolls and did not have any papers. The "breeder" told my mom that the kittens were $500 but the mother was free, because she was washed up as a breeder (she was 5). So my mom left with the mother cat, because she felt bad for her. She weighed five pounds, and she's now a very skinny 9lbs. The vet said that she was probably only days from death at that weight. There was nothing wrong with her, aside from severe malnourishment.

She is definitely a pretty cat, even if the general consensus is that she's actually a bad quality Birman.
