Personally, if I forgot something when letting my dogs out and I have to go back inside, I call them back in like they are gonna get a treat and it's the best thing ever. I don't trust my dogs or other things that could come into my yard to leave them unattended....even for a split second.

If I knew my brother had neighbors that let their dogs loose, I'd walk my dog on a leash to let it go potty or I wouldn't bring my dog over at all.
